Chaps Choir coming to Ilkley
A 'large male singing gang from London' is how the Chaps Choir describe themselves and they're coming to Ilkley.
Since its formation in 2013, the Chaps Choir has played several major London venues like the Royal Festival Hall and The Roundhouse as well as summer festivals like Citadel, Wilderness and Port Eliot, and on Saturday 13 April they hit town not only to perform, but also to lead a men's singing workshop.
With their wide-ranging repertoire and casual style they say they are just not what most people might imagine on hearing the words 'male voice choir'. Whether singing with them or just listening then, there will be plenty of opportunity to decide.
The Men's Singing Workshop with the Chaps Choir takes place from 3 – 5pm in the church hall at St. John's, Ben Rhydding. The evening concert starts at 7.30pm in the church.
Supporting the Chaps Choir in the evening will be Ben Rhydding's own men's singing group MOSS. Standing for Men Only Singing Songs MOSS is a small vibrant group of local men who got together in 2015 because they loved singing. Covering songs from the blues & jazz era, folk, contemporary pop & newly-composed songs for men's voices, they perform in and around the Ilkley area.
“This is quite a coup for MOSS,” says their director and Natural Voice Practitioner Keely Hodgson, “being just a local group which encourages men to get singing, and having a big London-based men's choir join us. And it's a great oportunity for men of all ages to have a go at singing with them. It should be quite a day!”
Tickets for the Men's Singing Workshop are £15/£12 ; evening concert tickets cost £8/£5. To book tickets visit: www.ticketsource.co.uk/keely-hodgson-music
