Dales Way Association's plan to mark the walks 50th anniversary

The Dales Way Association's (DWA) 2018 AGM will take place at The Flying Duck in Ilkley on Saturday 13 October, after which they will be discussing plans to celebrate 50 years of the Dales Way in 2019.

In the morning at 10.30am DWA Chairman, Colin Speakman, will lead a 3 mile walk where everyone is welcome. The route will start at Ilkley railway station, then up through Mill Gill, up to White Wells, through Rocky Valley to Hangingstone Rock, returning via Ilkley Tarn. The walk will last around two hours, arriving at the Flying Duck by 1pm for lunch before the AGM at 2pm.

According to Wikipedia, Bradford Grammar School Venture Scouts are the first recorded group making the roughly 81-mile stroll from Ilkley to Bowness-on-Windermere in 1969.

The DWA would like to see your photos and hear your memories and your tales of wonder or woe. The association’s archivists, Kath Doyle and Gordon Tasker are planning an exhibition.
