Dementia Friendly Ilkley Action group will be hosting Dementia Action Week 21 - 26th May at numerous locations across Ilkley.
As Alan Titchmarsh says “It is so important that we recognise the impact that Dementia has on so many people, and that we do all we can to offer support and understanding”.
On Monday 21st May, there is a coffee morning at Glen Rosa 10.30 -11.30am, and afternoon tea at the Care and Wellbeing cafe at St John’s Church Hall in Ben Rhydding 1.30 - 3.30pm.
Wednesday 23rd you can visit the Alzheimer’s Society Wellbeing Cafe at the Clarke Foley Centre for tea and cakes, information and support.
Ilkley Tennis Club will be hosting an information session on Thursday 24th May at 10.30am, and in the afternoon, Audley Clevedon will be offering complimentary tea between 2-4pm.
On Friday, Marks and Spencer will be hosting an information stall and bag packing service. That afternoon, the Toy Museum offers free entry for those wishing to have a nostalgic journey with toys and games through the ages.
Finally, on Saturday 26th May between 2 and 5pm, John Grogan MP will open a 1960’s themed afternoon event at the Clarke Foley Centre.
In addition to all this Santander will be selling raffle tickets with many exciting prizes to help support the Dementia Friendly Action Group. Ilkley Library will be displaying reminiscence books and nostalgic items from their memory boxes, and Ilkley Moor Pharmacy will be available with information and advice.
Throughout the week there will be opportunities for people to gain a greater understanding of this illness, how to support people within the community and how to recognise when to offer a welcome smile to carers as they cope around town. Please come and support these events and together we can show how much we care.
