Organisers thank Riverside litter pickers

Friends of Ilkley Riverside Parks is a new group which has been set up to work with the Council with the aim of improving the parks and recreational areas beside the River Wharfe in Ilkley and developing new ideas on how the park areas can better serve the residents of Ilkley and district and others who come to visit Ilkley.

Ed Duguid, The Interim Chair of FOIRP, said? “This was the last of our August litter picks, designed to clear up the parks before the winter months arrive. A cheery bunch as you can see. After three weeks of litter picks we think the park now looks free of most litter, also thanks to additional collections by the Council team. Last night we still filled several bags full of litter with bits of plastic, Takeaway trays, plastic bottles, cigarette butts and lots of small bits of paper! Clearly we have a big education job on our hands! Many thanks to everyone who has helped over the three weeks (35 different people turned up), and the Council for the implements and jackets, and Christine and Mark at Riverside Hotel who have stored our gear. We will continue to monitor the parks areas over the winter months and if it seems necessary we will organise further litter picks and let the public know”.

The Group will now over the winter to further develop ideas and plans to put to the Council about the long term development of the park areas surrounding the river.
