Rotary Club announce 2017 Holly Ball beneficiary

The Rotary Club of Ilkley have announced The Nell Bank Centre in Ilkley as the beneficiary of this year’s Holly Ball on Saturday 16 December.

Founded in 1977 and celebrating its 40th Anniversary year, Nell Bank provides outdoor educational experiences for people of all ages and abilities, from reception children following the story of the ‘Gruffalo’, to families with disabled children on short break weekends.

Dan Goodey, centre manager at Nell bank said “Nell Bank is a valuable asset for both schools and the local community, as such we are delighted to have the support of the Ilkley Rotary club. Having support from organisations who are passionate about outdoor learning are hugely important to the Centre to both continue to develop the offer for visitors and keep visits fresh and exciting, but also to help us to secure the future of the Centre long term. Learning outdoors and experiencing the natural environment has a powerful and lasting effect on children and young people, at Nell Bank and with the support of Ilkley Rotary Club, we can work to ensure these opportunities are as good as they can be and continue to be there long into the future.”

Nell Bank has over 20,000 children visit each year, a significant proportion of whom are from the most deprived wards in the Bradford district and also delivers a range of programmes for children with physical or learning disabilities supporting both special schools and families with disabled children.  The centre works with more than 80% of Bradford’s primary schools as well as schools from across West Yorkshire and further afield.  Over the last 3 years, all 35 of the most deprived schools in the Bradford district have visited the centre.  The centre is open to all schools and community groups and provides a valuable service to the public.
