Tesco backs Ilkley Carnival as main sponsor

Ilkley Carnival has announced the Tesco store in Ilkley will be the main sponsor of the 2017 May Day Bank Holiday event.

Tesco will be hosting a hands-on cookery workshop in the carnival showground where children can create their own healthy pizzas and edible slime, inspired by the 90s movie, Flubber.

Sarita Prashar, Tesco Ilkley store manager said: “Ilkley Carnival is a favourite amongst the local residents and we are delighted to be supporting this year’s event. It’s a wonderful opportunity to thank the Ilkley community for their support over the years.”

Tesco will also join Bettys Café Tea Rooms in its support of the Carnival Cover Competition – the annual creative challenge which invites local children to design the cover of the Ilkley Carnival programme. While Bettys will provide goody bags for the three category winners, the winning design will make it onto the cover of the carnival programme and be reproduced on 4,000 limited edition bags for life, available at Tesco Ilkley and at the carnival showground – with all proceeds going into the carnival funds.

The Carnival Cover Competition deadline has now been extended until 24 March to allow more children to enter and benefit from this additional prize.

Sarita added: “We’re excited to be involved with Ilkley Carnival’s Cover Competition and are looking forward to seeing the creations drawn by Ilkley’s budding artists and of course, seeing the winning design reproduced onto 4,000 bags for life which will all help to raise funds for this fantastic event and its beneficiary charities.

“On top of this, the winning artist’s school will also enjoy a workshop with our Tesco Junior Chef’s Academy which encourages children to build a healthier, happier relationship with food and provide them with the opportunity to make healthy recipes which can then be used at home.”

Andrew Stacey, Carnival Committee chairman, said: “Securing Tesco as a sponsor goes to show how far Ilkley Carnival has come over the past five years and their generous addition of a cookery workshop on carnival day – and to the school of our winning Carnival Cover Competition along with an additional fundraising tool of the unique carnival ‘bags for life’ means that 2017 really is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever!”
