Almost 90 overs 90s attend annual Ilkley party

Last Saturday Ilkley and District Good Neighbours organised the annual Over 90s Party at the Clarke Foley Centre, Ilkley. What an afternoon! Now in its 31st year, the event saw almost ninety of our over 90s residents, along with their friends, relatives and carers, enjoying afternoon tea and a celebratory glass of Bucks Fizz. We were entertained by Ilkley Moor Notes singing a lively and quite moving selection of songs, and Steph Atkinson played her vintage saxophone, along with Myra Johnson on the piano. The ever popular Shirley Britten, who has sung at the party for all the 31 years, gave us a selection of golden oldies to sing along with, and paid her own tribute to the First and Second World Wars. We ended with a rousing version of We'll Meet Again.

Honoured guests included David Pearson esq, Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, John Grogan MP, and Ilkley Town Mayor, Councillor Stephen Butler and his wife, Kate, along with Councillor Brian Mann and his wife Sylvia, of Ilkley Town Council.

The event would not have been possible without the help and support of so many of Ilkley and the district's voluntary groups and individuals who gave up their time to help organise the day. At least 50 people were involved in various aspects of the organisation, too many to list individually, but they know who they are, and we are all extremely grateful. This event shows what a community can do when it comes together.
