Be part of the Ilkley Manor House Advent Calendar

Following the success of ‘Peeping In’ which was held in the Manor House at Christmas 2020 the creative team of Louise Hepworth-Wood, Joanne Tinker and Lorraine Dowson have been exploring ideas for Christmas 2021.

Using the beautiful windows on the façade of the house the plan is to create a real-life advent calendar and we are hoping the community will get behind the scheme as they did with making snowflakes for Peeping In.

Sarah Thomas, Chair of the Manor House explains: "We are seeking help with our advent calendar design. The theme is ‘The Manor House through Time’ and though Christmas still feels a long way off we are asking the community for help with creating the images behind each of the 23 windows of the calendar. Window 24 will be the front door!

"The new window will be reviewed at 4pm each day from 1 to 24 December.

"Families, couples, or individual are invited to think about the question: ‘What does Christmas mean to you?’. With this in mind take a photo of yourself or the group (a quick and easy camera phone selfie will be fine) and email to louisehepworthwood@yahoo.co.uk

"When you send your photo, we would also like you to add just three words to the email that capture what the festive season means to you. The words can be poignant or happy – whatever is important to you.

"If your image is selected, Louise will then draw you maybe in medieval finery, Victorian or maybe even in futuristic attire. You will then be able to see you and your family in the Manor House windows and in the paper advent calendar that will be for sale, too.

"Your 3 words will be used to create a haiku poem to go with each window image that is created.

"We will assume if you send images, you are happy for these to be used on social media to promote the calendar and the Manor House.

"We look forward to receiving your creative Christmas responses!"

The deadline for entries is Monday 16 August 2021.
