Brand-new local theatre company, That’s The Badger Productions, is heading back to school this June as they present Teechers, the hilarious and fast-paced comedy by John Godber.
Running at Ilkley Playhouse from 3–6 June, the production brings to life the trials, tribulations and absurdities of school life through the eyes of three Year 11 students. First performed in 1987, Teechers has become one of the most widely performed modern British plays, celebrated for its quick-fire humour, inventive staging and the remarkable challenge of three actors playing more than twenty characters.
The play follows rebellious students Salty, Gail and Hobby as they recreate their final school days in a chaotic end-of-term performance, reliving encounters with a whole cast of eccentric teachers and classmates. At the heart of the story is the inspirational drama teacher who changes their outlook on life.
That’s The Badger Productions was founded in 2025 by husband-and-wife duo Adam and Lucy Boniface, who share a deep passion for theatre and a long-held dream of creating their own company. Based in West Yorkshire, the company aims to bring powerful stories to the stage through bold performances and inventive productions that inspire, move and entertain audiences.
Co-founder Lucy Boniface will also take to the stage in Teechers as Gail, bringing her experience both on and off stage to the production. Completing the dynamic three-person cast are Jamie Rogers as Salty and Ceri Owen as Hobby, both experienced performers within the local theatre scene. Between them, the trio take on more than twenty characters throughout the show.

This new staging is directed by Rick Hyland, an award-winning director well known across the Yorkshire theatre scene. A familiar face at Ilkley Playhouse and many other regional theatres, Hyland has built a reputation both on stage and behind the scenes, bringing his experience and energy to this fast-moving production.
With lightning-fast character changes, inventive storytelling and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, Teechers remains as relevant today as when it first premiered – celebrating the teachers who inspire us while taking a hilarious look at the education system.
Audiences can expect an energetic and inventive evening of theatre packed with nostalgia, humour and unmistakable Godber wit.
