Community bonfire event raises £5k for Ashlands

The Ashlands Primary School bonfire & fireworks event returned with a bang on Saturday and was a roaring success!

The annual event held in the school grounds on Leeds Road in Ilkley was, for the first time, a total sell out this year with people from Ilkley and the local community attending in their droves to raise over £5,000 for the school!

Sparks were flying as 1750 people came to marvel at the dazzling firework display and warm their cold hands on the epic bonfire. Gates opened at 6pm and the spectacular fireworks display, started at 7.30pm.

All the volunteers and Friends of Ashlands community worked really hard to ensure the evening was a sparkling success. The atmosphere was fantastic as Ashlands families, teachers and local residents enjoyed hot food and toffee apples, mulled wine and hot chocolates. Ilkley Brewery provided the bar and were a great support for the event.

Headteacher at Ashlands Primary, Mrs Donna Russell said: "Saturday Night brought the community of Ashlands Primary School together to celebrate Bonfire night and what an event it was! The fantastic team effort ensured the night was a huge success for all involved. Well done Team Ashlands!'

Nicola Holmes, Chair of Friends of Ashlands said: "For the first time this was a sell-out event, thank you Ilkley! We raised a fantastic amount of money for school but this wouldn't be possible without an incredible team of volunteers from both inside the school, the parent community as well as from the Ilkley community. Thank you so much to everyone for your support. We hope to see you all next year"
