Entries open for Rotary Young Photographer Competition

2022/23 winners: Rory Bruce, Eliza Browne and Francis McCann

Entries are now open for the Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale Young Photographer Competition 2023/24.

Are you a young person aged between 7 and 17 on 31st August, 2023 with an interest in photography? Could you take a photograph that would impress the judges in your age group? This is your chance to show your talent, perhaps win a worthwhile prize and perhaps advance to the district and national level competitions.

A spokesperson for the Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary Club said: “Last year the winners of the Local Area Competition were Eliza Browne (Junior), Francis McCann (Intermediate) and Rory Bruce (Senior) with Eliza Browne and Francis McCann winning the district competition for their age groups. Eliza was then rewarded with 2nd place (Junior) in the National competition. This result was beyond our wildest dreams, well done all three. There were entries from four schools last year and hopefully there will be more this year. Schools participating last year were Ashlands, Burley Oaks, Ghyll Royd and Ilkley Grammar.

“The theme of the competition this year is Rebuilding. First prize in each age group in the local competition is £30 and entry into the Yorkshire/District Competition. Second prize is £20 and third prize is £10.

“The entrant must live in the Ilkley area or attend a school between Addingham and Burley-in-Wharfedale (inclusive). The closing date is 30th November and judging will take place in January 2024. Please read the rules on our website carefully before submitting your photograph.”

Every qualifying entrant will receive a certificate of participation and the winners will go forward to the District Competition judged in March. The winners of that competition will proceed to a national level competition in April.
