Festive recycling & bin collection changes

  • Golden Butts HWRC will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

  • Bin collection on 25 Dec will be emptied earlier on Monday 21 Dec

  • Bin collection on 1 Jan, your bin will be emptied on Monday 4 Jan

As well as an abundance of good cheer and merry making, Christmas also generates an over-abundance of household waste.

Because most families need to have a serious clear out after the holiday, Bradford Council’s Household Waste Recycling Centres will remain open for most of the time.

They will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day but open every other day. Individual opening times are on the Council’s website.

Changes to some domestic bin collection days have been made due to the holiday.

If your bin is due to be emptied on Christmas Day (Friday, Dec 25), it will be emptied earlier on Monday, 21 December.

Instead of being emptied on Friday, 1 January, your bin will be emptied on Monday, 4 January, 2021. All other scheduled collection days remain the same as usual.

Remember to plot the bin collection changes in your calendar before the festivities begin. Bin hangers are being placed on bins where the household is affected to remind residents to put them out on the correct day.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: "We hope everyone has a marvellous Christmas time especially after the difficult year we have all experienced but we want people to remember to recycle. It is still as important as ever.

“The amount of waste generated can jump by as much as one-third this time of year so it’s really important to recycle as much as possible.

“We know people have had a lot to think about over the last 10 months so we would like to thank everyone who has kept recycling to help the environment and save Council Tax payers’ money.”

Much of the extra waste over the festive period can be recycled via the grey kerbside recycling bin, such as paper, magazines, glass and plastic bottles, tins, cans, cardboard, cards and wrapping paper.

Many other items can be recycled using a variety of Bradford Council's recycling services.

For example, Christmas trees can be disposed of at Household Waste Recycling Centres or chopped up in the brown garden waste bin.
