Ilkley firefighters to tackle Wharfedale Three Peaks in full kit!

Ilkley firefighters James and Adrian, will tackle the Wharfedale Three Peaks in full kit next month, raising funds for mountain rescue and firefighter charities.

The pair will face 17 miles of steep moorland and rocky ascent at the end of June while wearing full fire kit and breathing apparatus to raise funds for the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) and The Fire Fighters Charity.

The Wharfedale Three Peaks Challenge is a formidable test by itself; carrying roughly 25kg of equipment throughout the route will add a severe physical and mental burden, mirroring the demands firefighters face on duty.

James and Adrian set out to highlight the critical work of both charities and to show solidarity with colleagues and volunteers who operate in hazardous, high‑stress environments. UWFRA performs mountain rescue in the Wharfedale area and is currently fundraising for a new swift water sled, a life‑saving tool for rescues on rivers and floodwaters. The Fire Fighters Charity provides rehabilitation, counselling, and practical support for firefighters and their families coping with injury, illness, and the emotional strains of frontline service. Both organisations depend entirely on public donations to deliver services.
