McDonald's granted permission to open earlier

McDonald's between Ilkley and Burley-in-Wharfedale has been granted permission to open earlier.
The revised hours will allow the restaurant and takeaway to open earlier, from 6:30am instead of 8:00am, while retaining its existing midnight closing time.
The application received a number of representations during the decision-making process.
Supporters welcomed the earlier opening time, highlighting that opening at 6:30am was not unreasonable. They also identified the potential for additional employment opportunities and improvements to local breakfast choices.
However, objections were also raised - these included concerns about littering associated with the premises, potential increases in traffic congestion and the possible impact on neighbouring residents.
It was also suggested that refusing the proposal would not necessarily have a detrimental impact on the business.

The approval includes the following condition:
"The premises the subject of this decision shall not be used for hot food takeaway sales between the hours of midnight and 0630 and no customer shall be served or otherwise make use of the premises for these purposes between these hours."
The new earlier opening started today, Sunday 8 November 2026.
