Andy's Man Club [AMC], a nationwide men's mental health charity, is seeking premises in the Ilkley area to hold a weekly Monday meeting.
AMC, which has over 200 branches across the country, is a free, peer to peer support group for men over 18 years old which meets on Monday evenings. It aims to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and create a 'judgment-free, confidential space where men can be open about the storms in their lives'.
Ilkley resident and organiser of AMC in Harrogate, Nick Hockney said:
“Andys Man Club is a charity set up to prevent suicide, the biggest killer in males under 54. But the groups welcome any male going through any mental health problems or stress.
“It’s a place to get things off your chest, to share with group that will not judge and to benefit from the experience of those who attend. It’s not just a Monday night, there is a fellowship within the group that adds additional support.
“There is a new club in Skipton which opened in December, but not a club in the Wharfe Valley.
“We are seeking premises in the Ilkley, Ben Rhydding or Burley areas, ensuring that those in need have a club local to them.
“Venues need to offered free of charge and other than excluding places of a religious background and alcohol related venues, we would welcome interaction with any appropriate premises to support the valuable work. Some of the latest clubs are housed premises owned by local businesses.”
