Ilkley Town Council has installed new solar panels at the Riverside Gardens public toilet, providing renewable energy for many decades to come.
Electricity at the Riverside Gardens public conveniences, located near the 17th century Old Bridge, is now being boosted by 5 new solar panels that have been installed on the south-facing roof.
Ilkley Town Council resolved to place an order with Leeds Solar for installation of the panels at a total cost of £3,912 (ex VAT), which should be recouped within approximately 6 years. The panels are warrantied to still be 88% as efficient as they were when new, after 30 years of being installed on a roof. That means that by 2056 they will still be providing free, clean energy to keep the lights switched on and the hand dryers working efficiently!
Ilkley Town Councillor David Hesmondhalgh says: “Ilkley Town Council is delighted to be moving forward with its plans for a sustainable future for the town, which include addressing carbon reduction and mitigating climate change.”
