“Nellie” - a lovingly repurposed caravan that doubles as a working camera obscura, eco-friendly darkroom, and creative classroom on wheels is coming to Ilkley Manor House.
Across a 90-minute session in the Manor House courtyard, participants will step inside the camera obscura to see the world upside down, learn how a camera works from the inside out, and create a portrait using plant-based darkroom techniques designed to be gentler on the environment.
Four sessions will run across the weekend of Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March.
Session 1: Sat 21 Mar – 11:00am-12:30pm
Session 2: Sat 21 Mar – 1:30pm-3:00pm
Session 3: Sun 22 Mar – 11:00am-12:30pm
Session 4: Sun 22 Mar – 1:30pm-3:00pm
Tickets: £17 per session, booking online via TicketTailor or in person at the weekend Box Office; sessions are limited to 6 people. Suitable for all ages, under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
Delivered by Photo Hub North in collaboration with Ilkley Manor House and photoILKLEY, this is a rare opportunity to learn about photography through hands-on experimentation, combining traditional techniques with sustainable practices.
