Westville House celebrates exam success

Pupils passing Skipton Girls’ High School and Ermysted's Grammar School 11+ examinations

Year 6 children are celebrating their outstanding exam success at Westville House School in Ilkley.

In the Skipton Girls’ High School and Ermysted's Grammar School 11+ examinations, all 7 children who entered successfully passed.  An unprecedented 10 children passed the entrance examination for Bradford Grammar School and achieved 2 Chartered Scholarships along with the Headteacher's Scholarship. Two further Sport Scholarships were awarded at Giggleswick School and Sedbergh School. Children have also succeeded in their examinations for attendance at Ashville College and Woodhouse Grove School.

Mrs Walker, Headmistress confirms; “We are immensely proud to announce that our Year 6 children have achieved their aims for their onward journeys. A number of our children sat examinations for a range of selective secondary schools achieving an astonishing pass rate. Our main aim as a prep school is to prepare our children for secondary school and the hard work of each pupil and our teaching team is testament to the quality of education at Westville.  We strive to provide an environment where children thrive and truly reach their full potential in all areas and not just academics! Resilient, confident and articulate children ready to leave fully equipped for the next part of their journey.  Westvillians not only represent themselves in all areas of the curriculum but demonstrate that they are part of a school with family values by engaging with all parts of school life and the community. These results prove that Westville House School is an outstanding preparatory school providing a well-rounded education for all children. Our dedicated and professional team of staff have worked in partnership with parents to provide the very best care and education for the children at WHS, our thanks go to all involved.”

“Many of the Form 4 children have been at Westville since Reception,” recalls Mrs Colman, Deputy Head and Reception teacher; “Research shows that children who are taught well in their first year of school go on to achieve better GCSE results, and this embeds our ethos of providing educational excellence from the moment a child begins school. It has been an absolute privilege to watch these youngsters grow from young reception children to the top of prep and ready to spread their wings!”
