Tour de Yorkshire and Ilkley Carnival Weekend

We have a busy weekend ahead with stage 3 of the Tour de Yorkshire on Sunday April 30 and the Ilkley Carnival on Monday May 1.

On Sunday the race is expected to come through Ilkley on the A65 around 12:46, with a rolling road closure of no more than an hour.  The publicity caravan will be coming through earlier in the day and is scheduled to stop briefly in Burley in Wharfedale at 10:23 and Addingham at 10:41.

Many venues on the route will be welcoming race supporters, the Hollygarth is open to all from 10am, The Black Hat is serving breakfast from 9am and will have a BBQ and bar in the beer garden, Lishmans and The Commute Coffee House have teamed up to provide a BBQ, drinks and live music and All Saints Ilkley have a family fun day planned outside the church.

There will be plenty of family fun in Addingham with lots of activities in the Memorial Hall carpark from 11am, including a barbecue, bouncy castle and refreshments. In Burley-in-Wharfedale it was hoped to not only enjoy the Tour de Yorkshire, but also see the official opening of the new Grange Park Play Area, due to bad weather this has been delayed.  Burley Social Club have a BBQ from 1pm, magician at 4, followed by a family disco at 6pm.

Moving to Monday, the Ilkley Carnival ‘At the Movies’ themed parade starts at 11am this year and will make its way along The Grove, down Brook Street to the show field.  The A65 Leeds Road will be closed for approximately 15 minutes around 11.20am.

On the carnival show ground the Vander Brothers will headline the entertainment alongside the carnival’s Fun Dog Show, the classic car show, the West Yorkshire Air Ambulance, a fantastic falconry display, the historic Black Hats v White Hats cricket match and a host of free entertainment including the children’s craft tent.  

The carnival fun fair on East Holmes Field is open Fri 6 - 9 Sat 1.30 - 9 Sun 2 – 8 and from noon on Monday, 50p discount tickets can be printed at www.marshallsamusements.co.uk

Advance tickets for a full day of entertainment are priced at £5 for adults and £2 for children and OAPs (65+) if bought from Nora's Interiors & Gifts, Ilkley, Shoe Bee Doo, The Little Tea House, Ilkley Tourist Information Centre and Tesco Ilkley. A family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) can also be purchased in advance for £13.  The committee will also be selling tickets outside Bettys on Saturday 29 between 10am and 4pm.

Tickets on the day can be bought on the gates and will be priced at £6 per adult and £2 per child and OAPs (65+). Under 3s are free.

The Playhouse will also be open from 12-3 on 1 May for tours, talks, cake & lots more.
