Stars for a Day returns to the Kings Hall in Ilkley for the third year next week.

Organised by Elizabeth Sharp, the event on Wednesday 22 May gives a platform to local primary school children with a wealth of different talents an opportunity to display them.

Elizabeth told Ilkley Chat ‘My abiding passion lies in performing arts and it seems that music and drama are subjects being systematically squeezed out of the school curriculum and timetable.’

‘Ashlands have been a regular supporter throughout with All Saints joining us two years ago and now we welcome Burley Oaks for our third year.’

Elizabeth added ‘In past years audiences have enjoyed piano, violin, percussion, sax, flute and guitar instrumentalists, solo singers, duets and choirs and bands, an orchestra, poetry recitals, sketches and a one act play.’

'Come and join us and be wowed by the range and extent of talent to be found in our primary schools.'

The schools are organised and managed by Elizabeth’s " partner in crime" Lindsay Gledhill from Ashlands who has been involved since day one and liaises with the other schools. Dawn Binney from All Saints and Lucy Ashton from Burley Oaks are enthusiastic collaborators.

Admission is free and the event runs from 9.30am until 11.30am with a short break for refreshments. There will be a retiring collection to help defray the cost of the hall.

As there will be an exceptionally large number of children downstairs, adults are asked to occupy the balcony and boxes.

The event is sponsored by the Denis Sharp Memorial Fund and Elizabeth is most grateful for the support of the schools, staff and parents.
