Father Christmas will visit Ilkley when he comes to switch on the Christmas lights on Saturday November 26th.
Preparations for the switch on are in their final stages and once again the Town is preparing to welcome residents and visitors to an afternoon of festive entertainment.
The centrepiece of the afternoon will be the Switch On of the lights by Father Christmas at 5.00pm. His procession will assemble in the Memorial Gardens in readiness for an earlier departure at 4.35 pm, prompt.
From 10am there will be a Christmas Market on The Grove, with 30 stalls featuring special festive gifts and produce. Hot Aire will perform Christmas songs from 1.30pm on the bandstand to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.
Rombalds Radio Stuart Clarkson and Nick Babb will act as master of ceremonies for the afternoon and will host a programme of street entertainment, performed by groups from the local community, from 3.30pm. Following the switch on there will be a film show for children whilst they wait to visit Santa in his Grotto in Christchurch.
Ilkley Town Mayor, Councillor Mark Stidworthy said: "Ilkley's Christmas lights switch-on event and the accompanying market are flagship events for the town, marking the start of the build up to Christmas for many families. As we face a difficult winter, the Town Council is working hard to ensure that the lights switch-on is a joyful and welcoming event, lifting spirits and giving the local economy a seasonal boost by bringing people together to celebrate in our town centre."
