As spokesperson for the Ilkley committee for Yorkshire Cancer Research said: "Our committee is made up of 11 ladies & we raise an average of £10,000 a year for Yorkshire Cancer Research. We also raise awareness of the Charity which can raise far more substantial funds for the cancer research required. Each year we run events including a street collection in May, a Quiz Night in September, a Christmas Fayre in November, as well as Gin & Jazz evening's, golf & tennis events.

"The Charity highlights the importance of taking advantage of the screening programmes offered to catch cancer at a time it can be treated successfully. Yorkshire Cancer Research is saving lives by finding people who do not know they have cancer as they have no signs or symptoms. Diagnosing these cancers at an early stage means they are much easier to treat, these are people who would otherwise arrive in our clinics in 2 or 3 years time with advanced cancer.

"Yorkshire Cancer Research is a charity dedicated to funding research so that you & those you love live longer healthier lives. Our aim is that at least 2,000 more people recover from cancer in Yorkshire each year. To do this, each year we fund £10 million of the highest calibre research that prevents diagnoses & treats cancer.
