Anytime Fitness Ilkley based in the Moors Shopping Centre informed its members at the weekend that it had permanently closed its doors at 5pm on Friday 31st March 2023.
In an emailed letter member were told: “Unfortunately, due to losses sustained during the pandemic and reopening, coupled with the ongoing rise of operational costs, it is no longer financially viable to continue operating a gym from this location.
“We appreciate that this is hugely disappointing news to receive and we want to take this opportunity to assure you that we've done all we can to try and prevent this closure. As a locally owned, franchised business, our members mean everything to us and we would like to thank you sincerely for your loyal support throughout the past five years.
“We have supported thousands of members in our club and have seen first-hand the formation of new friendship groups and relationships that had led to holidays, hikes, marriages and births among our gym community. Alongside witnessing some incredible health transformations, it truly has been an honour to have played a small part in the health and wellness journey of our community.
"Regrettably, we are disappointed that we will not be in a position to do this going forward.”
Members have been told no further direct debit payments will be taken from their account and their membership will remain active until the end of April, with the closest club now at Moor Allerton in Leeds.
