Plans have been submitted to Bradford Council to install over 40 flags at intervals along Leeds Road, Skipton Road and Church Street to promote a weekend of events for Yorkshire Day.

Ilkley is hosting the official Yorkshire Society celebrations on 1st August, jointly with Bradford, and plans are in place for The Grove to be closed with events across the whole weekend 1st – 3rd August.

The flag application from Ilkley BID says:

“It will improve the appearance of the town along this busy main route through the town – for visitors, residents and business owners.

“The flags would carry a welcome message and promote Discover Ilkley as a resource for Ilkley information.

“The flag poles would remain in place and the flags could be changed in the future for specific events or to be refreshed.”

The project has also been approved by Ilkley Town Council and they have contributed a grant towards the scheme costs.

Ilkley BID say it would look after the flags, poles and fittings going forward to ensure they continue to look attractive.
