The Ilkley Concert Club series of Afternoon Concerts, featuring young musicians completing their studies at the RNCM and about to embark on their professional careers, is now well established. The concerts give performance experience to the students and to the audience a chance to enjoy a wide range of music performed by young talents of the future.
The dates this year are Thursdays, November 2nd, 9th and 16th from 2.30 to 3.30 pm: all concerts take place at the King's Hall, Ilkley. They are open to all, and people who find it harder to get to the Club’s evening concerts are specially welcome to these one hour recitals in the early afternoon.
The season starts with Cantelina, a mezzo soprano and guitar duo, performing works ranging from John Dowland to Spanish songs by Manuel de Falla and finishing with Moon River by Mancini.
This is followed by an exciting programme with the Olias Saxophone Quartet, a group chosen to take part in the 50th birthday celebrations of the RNCM at the Wigmore Hall this summer.
The second concert, on November 9th, begins with pianist Marianne Huang Yueyin, winner of this year’s RNCM Chopin prize, playing a programme of Chopin Preludes. In the second half Trio Cosmo, another prize-winning ensemble, will play Beethoven’s piano trio op 70 no. 1, nicknamed the ‘Ghost’, one of his most famous works.
The final concert on November 16th features the Talland Quartet playing music by Haydn and Mendelssohn. The quartet have been hugely successful since their formation and come to Ilkley with warm commendation from Donald Grant, head of Chamber Music at the RNCM.
This concert series is a display of young musical talent not to be missed and is sure to give delight to the audience.
Tickets at £9 for a single concert and £24 for the series of three are available online at IlkleyConcertClub.eventbrite.com and also via the Ilkley Concert Club website – ilkleyconcertclub.org.uk – and at the door on concert days.
