Changing Places facility planned for Ilkley town centre

How the changing places facility in Ilkley could look

A larger toilet with more facilities is planned to make Ilkley town centre more accessible for people with disabilities.

A Changing Places toilet pod is to be built next to the existing toilet block in the South Hawksworth Street Car Park. The facility will be paid for by Bradford Council and Ilkley Town Council will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining it.

The facility would offer a range of accessibility aids, including a ceiling hoist and track and height adjustable adult changing bench, as well as an electric shower.  It will also have a Safe and Sound system within the pod, allowing a person in distress to call for support via a pull cord.

Ilkley Mayor, Cllr Karl Milner said: "This facility will open up the town centre for many more people to visit. I am really looking forward to its arriving and to continuing our work to improve the back Grove area."

The LS29 Special Needs Group had been campaigning for the facility and said: “It’s great news for accessible Ilkley, tourists, residents young and old who need extra facilities and visitors to the many events Ilkley puts on.”
