New Ilkley Community Network website launches to unite LS29 voluntary organisations

A new online directory and community calendar have launched to bring together information about the vibrant voluntary and community sector in the LS29 area.

The Ilkley Community Network (ICN) website is now live, hoping to become the definitive directory for voluntary organisations, non-profits, youth groups, and social clubs across the district.

The project was driven by a clear necessity to bridge the gap between Ilkley's residents and its local services. Initiated by David Shaw MBE and Mark Stidworthy, guided by ICN members and funded by Ilkley Town Council, the platform addresses a long-standing requirement for a readily accessible shared information hub showcasing the wealth of community groups in Ilkley and the surrounding area. Information that was previously scattered and difficult to find.

Bringing the directory to life was a significant undertaking. Local web designer Jos Mountcastle was enlisted to build the platform, navigating the challenging task of auditing hundreds of disparate groups and gathering data from various sources to ensure the directory was as comprehensive as possible.

David Shaw MBE said:

"The sheer volume of activity in Ilkley is inspiring, but it was also the biggest challenge. "We knew we needed to pull this information together to ensure no resident is left unsupported and no group goes unnoticed."

The new website is designed to be a "one-stop shop" for several key needs:

For Youth: Easily locate local scouts, sports clubs, and youth-focused support services.

For Support Seekers: Find non-profits and community groups offering specialised help and advice.

For Social Connection: Discover hobbyist groups and social clubs to help residents build friendships and combat isolation.

For Volunteers: A dedicated space for those looking to give back to see exactly where their skills are needed.

For the Whole Community: A comprehensive Community Calendar listing local events, ensuring residents never miss out on the workshops, coffee mornings, and seasonal activities happening across the LS29 area.

There is a call to action for LS29 groups, as ICN is a living project, residents and group leaders are encouraged to get involved to ensure the directory remains relevant and up to date.

The community is being asked to check the directory to ensure organisations are listed correctly and keep entries updated with any changes.
