Ilkley Town Council is delighted to announce that Santa’s back in Town! Saturday 27 November will be the day that Christmas comes to Ilkley.
Due to Covid-19, last year the town council was unable to stage its usual Christmas lights switch on and went virtual, and although we are still working our way through the pandemic, life is returning to some form of normality and Team Sparkle have been planning!
Throughout the day there will be a special Christmas market along The Grove selling seasonal fare and music playing on the Bandstand. From around 3.30pm in the build-up to the switch-on, local groups and singers will provide festive entertainment outside Christchurch hosted by Ilkley’s digital radio station Rombalds Radio.
As usual, the centre piece of the afternoon will be Father Christmas’s carriage procession along The Grove to Christchurch where he will greet the crowds and switch on the lights at 5.00pm. Children and parents are invited to join the procession which will assemble in the Memorial Gardens from 4.30pm in readiness for moving off along The Grove at 4.40pm.
After the switch on children will be able to meet Santa in his Christmas Gazebo which will be located in the Bandstand area.
A glowing spokesperson for Team Sparkle said: “Please join us on Saturday 27 November and celebrate the start of the festive season as we switch on the lights and illuminate Ilkley.”
