A flood warning has been issued due to quickly rising river levels in response to rainfall on Friday (21/02/20). Areas of concern are properties around Denton Road, Middleton Avenue and the Cricket, Football and Rugby Grounds, the sewage works and Denton Bridge.

Sports pitches remain closed
Bradford Council have said that all council sports pitches will remain closed this weekend (Saturday, February 22 & Sunday 23) as more rain is forecast to fall onto the already waterlogged ground.
A council spokesperson said: 'We are sorry for the inconvenience but allowing sporting fixtures to take place with the ground in this condition would result in serious damage to the turf.'
Figures obtained by Councillor Anne Hawkesworth (Ind, Ilkley) have revealed that in the first month of Ilkley's new parking schene last year on-street pay and display totalled £33,677.90.
Between July 29 and October 13 there were 1,702 on-street penalty charge notices (PCNs) issued which, with every PCN issued generating £27 of income over a period of time, will generate an estimated income of £45,954.
Post-6pm charges of £1 were introduced in three town car parks - Wharfe View, Railway Road and South Hawksworth Street - and in the same period 298 PCNs were issued, generating an estimated £8,046 income.
South Hawksworth Street car park in Ilkley has brought in £36,462 in PCN income, the most so far this financial year.

A Clean Air Zone consultation event will take place at Ilkley Town Hall on Wednesday 11 March between 4pm and 8pm.
The proposed Clean Air Zone aims to improve air quality and the health of people in the district - particularly in the city centre, Shipley and Saltaire where pollution is highest.
The recommended option will see the introduction of a Class C Clean Air Zone in October 2021 - which will require a daily charge for more polluting and non-compliant vehicles like buses, coaches, taxis, heavy and light goods vehicles when they enter the area. This will not include private cars.
A full public consultation will run from the 18 February until the 26 March.
Ilkley Town Council is hosting a town meeting at 7.00pm on Monday 9 March in All Saints Church.

AMBER alert as Storm Dennis approaches
Named by the Met Office, Storm Dennis will bring heavy rain and widespread strong winds on Saturday and Sunday, though the impacts are not expected to be as extreme as Storm Ciara last weekend.

The Environment Agency says nothing will be done to stem the flow of sewage into the River Wharfe in Ilkley until at least 2030 - despite acknowledging that the level of sewage discharges into the river – which have been admitted by Yorkshire Water – should trigger an investigation.
The EA told the Ilkley Clean River Campaign Group nothing will happen for 10 years.and any solutions to the problem of sewage discharge would not be considered and delivered until the ninth asset management period (AMP9), which would run from 2030 to 2035.
Becky Malby, on behalf of the Ilkley Clean River campaign, said: “This is not the service we expect from our regulatory body. The public expectation is that now the problem has been identified and acknowledged, something will be done to address it as a matter of urgency.”
Campaigners have applied for a stretch of the river to be given bathing water status in an attempt to force action on the river being used as what activists describe as an open sewer.
Raising around £40,000 each year, the annual Ilkley Beer Festival was held on 7 and 8 February at the King’s Hall and Winter Garden in Ilkley with 2,500 attending.

Sports pitches closures
Bradford Council have today said that due to the saturated condition of council grass sports pitches and with further heavy rain expected from storm Dennis, all Bradford Council grass sports pitches will be closed this coming weekend 15 and 16 February 2020.
This is the first such closure the Council has had to make this year and they are hopeful that fixtures will be back to normal if the weather and ground conditions improve for the following weekend.

Snow and ice next for Ilkley?
A Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice is in place until 12:00 on Wednesday 12 February. Forecasters say heavy snow showers and icy surfaces are likely to lead to travel disruption – however the forecast looks to be more sleet than snow, but be prepared.
Because of the predicted bad weather over the next few days, Bradford Council’s bin crews will be taking precautions.

Storm Ciara could cause weekend problems
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for wind and a yellow warning for rain in West Yorkshire and most of the UK as Storm Ciara is set to bring heavy rain and gales from Saturday evening.
The yellow weather warning continues through Sunday when driving conditions are expected to be difficult, public transport could be hit with cancellations and delays and forecasters have also warned of power cuts and possible damage to buildings.
Network Rail and train operators have issued an alert to passengers, stating: "Only travel by train this Sunday if absolutely necessary."
Disruption could continue into Monday morning as repair work may be hampered by the conditions and passengers are urged to check for updates before travelling.

A warning for users of Boyes car park in Ilkley
A new parking eye (camera) and machine have been installed in the car park at Boyes in Ilkley and apparently the ticket machine goes into ‘sleep mode’ and doesn’t register the first digit of the registration, which has resulted in fines being issued.
Please check your full registration has been entered when using the machine and check your ticket.
Boyes are arranging new signage to hopefully make it clearer and anyone who is issued a ticket needs to contact Smart Parking who manage the car park.

New CCTV plan for Ilkley
Bradford Council is proposing to invest £975,000 to improve and extend its CCTV infrastructure, including a plan to bring high-tech cameras to Ilkley.

Blue badge shake-up
Bradford Council is changing how it deals with requests for disabled parking spaces on residential streets in Ilkley.
Currently, any objections to requests for bays have to go before a committee which can mean delays of up to two months .
Now the decision will be made by a councillor and won't have to go before a committee.

Police appeal after schoolgirl approached
Police are appealing for information after a schoolgirl reported being approached by a man in Guiseley.
The 10-year-old girl had been walking home from school at about 3.30pm yesterday (9/1) and was in Park Road, near to its junction with Bradford Road, when a man in a vehicle that was queuing with other cars at traffic lights spoke to her and asked her to get in. The girl ran off and the man drove away as the lights turned green.
The vehicle involved was described as dark coloured and possibly a pick-up style truck. The man was described as white, with short dark hair, and was wearing a grey t-shirt.
Detectives are carrying out enquiries to identify the man involved and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area and saw anything, particularly any other drivers who may have dashcam footage that could assist.

Thousands turned out Saturday to see Santa switch on Ilkley's Christmas lights!
Crowds were treated to an impressive display by Ilkley Gymnastics Club and performances from West Yorkshire Rock Choir and Performance Drama School before the 5pm switch on.
Hosted by Nick Hancock from Stray FM, Santa was joined by Ilkley Mayor, Cllr Mark Stidworthy, and Isabel Ashman, Ilkley Town Crier.
Early in the afternoon, visitors to the market around the bandstand enjoys seasonal music from The Bradford Concert Band and Guiseley Brass Band.

Bradford Council have released a new app.
Residents will need to download the replacement app from either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store as this is not simply an update to the existing app. People who still have the old Bradford Council app should delete it as it will no longer work.
The replacement app offers more flexibility with its alerts about bin days, job vacancies, school closures and access to key council service information.

Long standing shop closed after 20+ years
After over 20 years, Sylvia's Rips and Zips closed its doors for the final time on Saturday.

Have your say on the future of local libraries services
Bradford Council has started a consultation that will shape the future of the district’s library service.
Cuts of £1.05 million to the library service budget will be implements in 2020/21 and now all residents are encouraged to complete a survey – whether they use a library all the time or not at all.
Supporting profile documents on the council website show Ilkley Library had 101,552 visits costing £1.60 a visit in 2018/19 - down from 2017/18 when there were 145,191 visits costing £1.18 a visit.
There is a drop in session at Ilkley library on Saturday 23 November between 10am to 11.30am. The engagement survey will close on Friday 20 December.

Over £3,000 raised for the Poppy appeal
At Ilkley’s Remembrance Service on Sunday £1326.61 was raised through the collection, donations will go directly to the Royal British Legion and will help provide financial, social and emotional support to both veterans and serving members of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependants
Meanwhile on Saturday, members of the Rotary Club raised £1767.95 on The Grove and at Tesco for the Poppy appeal.

Due to industrial action Ilkley library will be closed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week - 5-7 November.
It's part of 14 days of strike action this autumn over cuts to library and museum services by Bradford Council which could see funding axed by 65 per cent.

Elderly women dies in Ilkley fire
West Yorkshire Police are now able to confirm that a fire in Ilkley today (Thursday) has sadly proved fatal.
An 89-year-old woman died in the fire at an address in Cowpasture Road, which police were called to at 8.37am. Her family have been informed.
Enquiries are continuing with the fire service to establish the circumstances of the blaze.
Road closures are currently on and are likely to remain in place until later this afternoon.

Ilkley Commuter Survey
An anonymous Ilkley commuter survey by local Councillors, Ilkley BID and MP John Grogan is being conduced to assess whether there is a likely demand for the return of a hoppa bus service to connect residential areas of Ilkley with the railway station. This would coincide with peak train times to and from Leeds and Bradford.
Until 2016 there was a bus service between Hebers Ghyll and Ilkley Town Centre, as well as a circular service in Ben Rhydding. These services were integrated into the 962 Otley-Ilkley circular service, which does not begin until after 9am and is targeted primarily at shoppers.
Please note that this is for Ilkley residents currently working or studying during the week.
Booths got a taste of the Ilkley’s got Heart Prepared to Save a Life Campaign last week, hosting a live First Aid demonstration.

Further live demonstrations will take place this Friday (1 Nov) at 10.30am in the town centre outside Hush & Avanti with another demonstration on 8 November at The Clarke Foley Centre.
At a meeting next week, Bradford Council’s Executive will be asked to approve a £460,000 plan to replace the pool tank at Ilkley Lido for the first time since the pool was built in 1935.
Explaining the need for the work to Ilkley Lido, the report says: “Since the Lido’s opening in 1935, the pool tank has never been replaced and the objective of this project is to replace the original concrete pool tank lining and screed that has been in situ for 84 years.
“When complete it will remove the costly repairs year on year and reduce the amount of Council resources it takes to make the lido fit for purpose.”
The Ilkley BID are calling for all town centre businesses, residents and visitors to complete a new survey to gather data on the impact of the new parking scheme.
Electric Cars in Ilkley
Organised by Climate Action Ilkley and Ilkley U3A, an event to discuss electric cars will take place on 13 November between 7.15 and 9.15pm at the Clarke Foley Centre
A panel of 5 will talk for 10 minutes each about running an electric car in Ilkley followed by questions and answers. The panel includes Bradford Council’s Low Carbon Manager, an Ilkley Councillor, a Transport Consultant, a resident who already owns an electric car and a Huddersfield University lecturer on “Are electric cars the answer?"

Three Ilkley-based artists are dusting down older pieces ready for an exhibition with a difference.
Diners will be able to get £5 off their next meal at Ilkley’s Bistrot Pierre thanks to its new and improved loyalty app: ‘Club Bistrot Pierre’.
Ilkley's MP John Grogan says he will make the "strongest possible representations" for the town to keep its professionally staffed library.
And the town's councillors have also said they will fight to save Ilkley Library from closure in the face of cuts to the libraries and museums service by Bradford Council.
It comes as 14 days of strike action by library and museum staff across the district in the battle against the cuts began this week. The Unite union, which represents around 50 employees in the service, is spearheading the action – which started with a two-day walkout on Monday and Tuesday, resulting in the closure of Ilkley Library.

Application for Bathing Water Status for Wharfe submitted
Ilkley Clean River Group’s application for Bathing Water Status for the River Wharfe has gone to Defra.
Announcing the news on their Facebook page, the group has said it is with the support of Ilkley Town Council, Ilkley MP John Grogan and Bradford Council.
They also thanked all the volunteers who counted, tested, and filled in the survey.
Only beers made in the town will be sold at next month’s inaugural Ilkley Beer Week (10-16 Nov), where events will benefit the Olicanian Cricket Club fund, whose pavilion was torched by arsonists in August.
The week will mark the tenth anniversary of Ilkley Brewery, which is based on Ashlands Road, whilst The Flying Duck public house on Church Street, which is also home to Wharfedale Brewery, is celebrating its sixth birthday.

Dates have been confirmed for the 2020 Beer Festival; Friday 7 and Saturday 8 February 2020.

Strike action closes Ilkley library Monday and Tuesday
Due to industrial action, Ilkley library will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, 21 and 22 October.
The action over low pay and funding cuts are the first 2 of 14 days of strike action planned this autumn.
Members of the union Unite are protesting against the council’s plans to cut its museums and libraries budget by 65%, which they warn will make the service unsustainable, as well as resulting in redundancies, pay cuts and the erosion of employment conditions for staff.
Further strikes are scheduled next month, and a week-long walkout is planned the run-up to Christmas.
Ilkley author, Joe Varley, has released his new children’s book ‘Bruno's Big Day Out’.
New fun children's bins are coming to the playground area of the Riverside Memorial Gardens.

Town Council seeks parking opinions
Ilkley Town Council is seeking opinions from residents on the new parking scheme, in order to represent these opinions to Bradford Council. The town council are keen to hear views on ways in which the scheme could be made to work better for residents and all others who use the Town Centre.
To date, there has been a good deal of critical opinion, so they are very keen to also hear from those for whom the scheme has been an improvement.

Council is to start charging for car parking at Ilkley Pool and Lido in Spring 2020
Bradford Council have announced it intends to start charging for car parking at Ilkley Pool and Lido from Spring next year.
In 2018 the council's executive approved plans to introduce the parking charges saying they were needed to offset the effect of Government grant cuts and provide funding to maintain council car parks, however they have delayed implementing them until now.
The charging period will be 8am to 6pm from Monday to Sunday and will cost £1 for up to 2 hours, £2 for up to 4 hours and £3 for over 4 hours.
A refund scheme, similar to Shipley Pool car park, will be introduced for people using the pool and lido. A number of parking permits will be issued to Olicana Cricket Club and All Saints Pre-School Nursery to facilitate operation of the club and business.

Brownies ramble for Children In Need
Last year the girls walked from Nell Bank to Ilkley Moor and back making it a circular trip of around 10 Kilometres. The walk raised £500 for Pudsey!
Ally Foster, the leader of the 5th Ilkley Unit has organised another walk to take place on Saturday 12 October after a sleepover at Nell Bank. This year 54 girls and 11 adults will take part, so they should make quite an impression up on the moor.
The girls will be raising money for Children in Need via sponsorship forms and a JustGiving page.
Pupils and teachers at Ghyll Royd School and Pre-School are celebrating the news that their school is now a finalist in the Independent Schools of the Year awards.
Olicanian Cricket Club has been supported in its hour of need by players from across the Airedale and Wharfedale League and local residents.
Players from several clubs have figured in a fundraising match played at Burley Cricket Club. The event raised £1,600 for Olicanian’s fund to rebuild the club’s pavilion destroyed by arsonists last month.
Meanwhile, the landlord of The Station pub in Ilkley has raised £519 for the cricket club in barely three weeks. Mark Russell placed a collection box on the bar and the cash rolled in.
And elsewhere several year five pupils from Ben Rhydding Primary School raised £180.80 for Olicanian Cricket Club when they staged “The Great Oli’s Bake-off”.

First for Ilkley swimming club
Congratulations to Ilkley Swimming and Waterpolo Club who came first in the Bradford Dolphin Friendship Gala on Saturday.
The competition at Shipley swimming pool saw a number of local teams in age groups 10 and under, 12 and under and 14 and under, both girls and boys, compete in relays. back, breast, medley and free plus cannon.
The members all live in Ilkley and the surrounding area and are coached by senior coach Christopher Kitson and volunteers coaches Peter Kitson and Ellen Winters.
Saturday (September 21) saw another bumper Recycling Day for Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary Club as residents flooded the Club with donations of bicycles, sewing machines, tools and mobility aids, spectacles and backpacks.

A blaze in May on Ilkley Moor was most likely started by a person throwing lit matches on the moor.
Plans to demolish a grand building in the Conservation area on Kings Road in Ilkley and build a block of apartments in its place have been approved by Bradford Council planners.
The plans to build 10 apartments on the site had attracted a number of objections. Ilkley Civic Society described the design as a “missed opportunity” to complement listed Heathcote next door – one of just 23 Grade I listed buildings in the district.

Three weeks after their pavilion was burnt to the ground, Olicanian Cricket Club (OCC) have been promoted to the top flight of the Airedale and Wharfedale Senior League for the first time in their 97-year history.

Bradford Council stop Station Plaza work
Improvement works to the flower beds outside the Station Plaza in Ilkley have been stopped by Bradford Council due to the lack of planning permission.
Roger Yaxley, a member of Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary Club, put out an appeal for volunteers in June via the Gazette, commenting on “the sorry state” of the flower beds near the Station Plaza, and work began two weeks ago.
Mr Yaxley told the Gazette he talked at length with Bradford Council before commencing work and had secured permission for the raised flower beds.

Police appeal after Ilkley Co-op armed robbery
Police are investigating a report of a robbery at the Co-op store in Bolton Bridge Road, Ilkley at about 10.15pm on Saturday.
The Gazette is reporting two suspects, armed with a knife and a baseball bat, entered the store and took was is believed a quantity of cash. No members of staff were physically injured in the incident.

The Oli's return to action following arson attack
A week on from the devastating fire that ripped through their pavilion, Olicanian cricket club returned to action at the weekend with a win.
The club’s timber pavilion was destroyed by fire in the early hours of Sunday, August 25. West Yorkshire Police and the fire service have confirmed arson as the cause. No arrests have yet been made.

Staff at All Saints Pre School have issued a message thanking everyone for their help and support following last weeks awful fire and appealed for donations to replace the equipment lost.

Fire guts Olicanian Cricket Club pavilion - police treating as arson
The pavilion at Olicanian Cricket Club on Denton Road has been totally destroyed by fire early Sunday morning. The building is also the home of All Saints' Pre-School.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called at 03:10 and report 4 appliances attended the incident from Otley, Rawdon, Keighley & Shipley along with Fire Investigation officer. Crews used 5 large jets and 2 hose reels to extingush the fire.
The police are treating it as arson, anyone with information is asked to phone 101 quoting log 0554 of today’s date (25/08/19).

Ilkley Grammar School is this week celebrating another outstanding set of GCSE results, further building on the excellent gains made in recent years since the introduction of the harder new style GCSEs.
An arsonist who set fire to Ilkley Moor as flames already raged has been locked up for 27 months.
Mohammed Zulkifl , 20, who previously pleaded guilty to arson, was at Bradford Crown Court today for sentencing.
The court heard emergency services were already stretched tackling two separate seats of wildfires on the tinder dry Ilkley Moor when Zulkifl was seen by council wardens setting fire to the grass with a cigarette at around 8pm on April 20.

Booths encourages customers to bring reusable containers to counters
Booths has launched an initiative encouraging customers to bring their own clean, lidded reusable containers to purchase fresh meat and fish from their counters.
“We’re constantly striving to become a more environmentally friendly retailer,” said Booths brand and innovations manager Matt Bruno.
“Enabling our customers to bring their own clean, lidded containers to purchase fresh meat and fish from our counters is a natural progression towards becoming more sustainable.”
The retailer is also changing pre-packed options to include less plastic and more recyclable materials. It is removing plastic bottles from its café, switching over to glass bottles and cans, and is removing all plastic cutlery for its takeaway counter products and Booths-branded pre-packaged food-to-go options.
In a letter hand delivered this week, Councillor Anne Hawkesworth (Ind, Ilkley) has written to Bradford Council's Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, Cllr Alex Ross-Shaw, to spell out her grave concerns about the detrimental effect the car parking scheme is having on the lives of Ilkley residents and businesses - appealing to take action now to alleviate the "severe upset" the scheme is causing.

Bradford Council have praised the community-spirited people who help the local authority by reporting people who dump rubbish from their vehicles, this has seen more than 100 people paying Fixed Penalty Notices
Earlier this year the Council agreed to adopt new rules which will make it easier to prosecute people who drop litter from vehicles and raised the level of Fixed Penalty Notice fines to £100.
Ilkley Grammar School students excel at A level
Ilkley Grammar School’s students have once again excelled at A Level this year with very positive outcomes across a wide range of subjects and results above national averages at all levels.
A fantastic 12 per cent of all grades achieved were at A* - four per cent above national and one of the school’s best ever results at this highest level, with almost a third of grades achieved at A*/A. This is all the more noteworthy given the national decline at A*/A this year which is at its lowest level for a decade at 26 per cent. Overall, the IGS pass rate was 99 per cent with a very pleasing 59 per cent of grades secured at A*-B (eight per cent above national).
As part of an Innovation project undertaken by Biomedical Nutrition Limited, the Leeds Enterprise Partnership has awarded £90,000 towards the total project cost of £200,000.
Cardio-K a food supplement product developed by Ilkley based Biomedical Nutrition to maintain healthy cholesterol levels is now undergoing further research and clinical trials.
Massive cuts in housing targets across Wharfedale
In Bradford Council's 2019 partial review the targets have been halved in Ilkley (to 500) - while the Addingham figure has been cut by 62 per cent (to 75).The figures for Burley have gone down by 21.42 per cent (to 550).
Bradford Council has said all areas across the district will see a reduction in the housing targets with the exception of the city centre. It says more than 81 per cent of all new housing will be in brownfield and non-greenbelt locations and proposals will see a reduction by half in the amount of greenbelt land that could be released for development - with the majority being in the Bradford city area.

Fund raising got underway for the Ilkley Playground Project on Friday with an Open Mic Night at Daniel's Cafe and Bistro.

FOIRP launch ‘Take Your Rubbish Home’ campaign
The Friends of Ilkley Riverside Parks (FOIRP) have this week launched a ‘Take Your Rubbish Home’ campaign in a bid raise awareness of the effects and costs of littering.
Last weekend FOIRP spent the weekend in the parks, asking people what they thought of the park areas. Between 70 and 80 per cent of people visiting were from outside Ilkley and litter was a common topic of concern.
Why don’t they take their rubbish away with them when they see the bins are full?

We intend to talk to Bradford and Ilkley Town Councils about setting up a co-ordination group to monitor the situation and take appropriate action. We believe people are heartily fed up with the current situation and need action with a clear focus to address this issue.”

Ilkley residents are being urged to not panic if they see the River Wharfe or one of its becks turn green on Friday or over the weekend.
A fluorescent green tracing dye is being put into a watercourse that comes off Ilkley Tarn on Friday morning to try to better understand the route it takes to the River Wharfe. It’s unlikely to be visible in the river until Friday lunchtime.
The purpose is to discover whether the watercourse flows into Backstone Beck and contributes to it flooding, particularly onto Leeds Road, in times of heavy rainfall.

A SERIES of moor fires are likely to cost the fire service well over £62,000 – according to new figures.
A new report into the fires at Ilkley Moor and Marsden Moor over the Easter weekend reveal the pressures faced by West Yorkshire Fire Service in dealing with three major incidents.
West Yorkshire Fire Authority’s Community Safety Committee will discuss the moor fires at a meeting on Frida .at 10.30am at the fire service HQ in Birkenshaw.

Delays expected as Moor Road is closed
Bradford Council will be carrying out resurfacing on the Moor Road between Burley Woodhead and Ilkley until Monday 15 July.
The road is expected to be closed between 7:30 and 19:00 each day.
Long delays are expected into Ilkley on the A65 Countenance Way.

The Ilkley Clean River campaign group are set to meet with the Environment Agency and Yorkshire Water next week as they continue their campaign to clean up the River Wharfe.
They want Yorkshire Water to only be allowed to put raw sewage in the Wharfe in extreme storm conditions, which would only be a few times a year. The group say raw sewage was discharged into the Wharfe at Ilkley 35 times in 2018 over a period of circa 71 days - at the moment waste is allowed to be released into the water in certain conditions, such as after heavy rain or snow.
The public meeting is on Thursday 11 July at 5.30pm at Christchurch and also attending are Ilkley Town Council and John Grogan MP.
They're urging members of the public to come along to the meeting and help the campaign.
The Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) came in to force on Monday (July 1), will cover moorland across the Bradford district and will run for three years before it is reviewed.
People breaching the order, which will be enforced by authorised Council staff and the police, could face a fine of up to £100 if they do not comply with a request to extinguish and surrender the articles.
Unpaid fines may lead to prosecution in the Magistrates Court and could lead to a fine of up to £2,500.

Police appeal for witnesses following a serious road traffic incident on Friday in Ilkley
Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident which occurred earlier Friday, 28 June 2019, on Lower Wellington Road at the junction with Little Lane in Ilkley.
At around midday, a white Mercedes Panel Van was reversing when a 90 year old woman sustained injuries to her leg and hip.

Love Brownies will mark its 10th birthday in July by opening the Brownie Barn and relaunching the Ilkley shop.
The Brownie Barn at Barden, close to Bolton Abbey, will offer breakfast, lunch, healthy smoothies, indulgent milkshakes, freshly roasted coffee and their award-winning chocolate brownies.

LTA’s Ilkley Trophy single finals
On an exciting final day on Sunday at the LTA’s Ilkley Trophy 2019, it was Germany’s Dominik Koepfer that took home the men’s singles trophy, beating Austria’s Dennis Novak. The German lost the first set 6-3 but brought it back to win the second set 6-3, taking the game to a third set which he won 7-6.
The second final of the day was a thriller, which saw Monica Niculescu lift the women’s singles trophy after beating Hungarian Timea Babos. The Romanian won the first set 6-2 before Babos came back to win the second set 6-4. Niculescu went on to win the third set 6-3, taking home the trophy.

Following the announcement that Bradford Council will be introducing its new parking scheme in Ilkley on July 29, Ilkley BID Ltd, which operates the Business Improvement District in Ilkley, is appealing to local businesses to confidentially share business data with them.
A Bradford man has been warned to expect “a substantial sentence of imprisonment” after he pleaded guilty to setting fire to Ilkley Moor.
On April 20, 14 fire engines were in attendance fighting blazes that broke out in more than one location.
Bradford Council is announcing an expansion of 20mph zones across the district on Clean Air Day covering areas of Bradford, Shipley, Keighley and Ilkley.
On Monday night 250 Cub Scouts from all over Wharfedale attended an activity night and camp fire at Curly Hill Camp Site in Ilkley.

Record turnout for Ilkley Lido Summer solstice swim
The 6th Summer solstice swim took place at Ilkley Lido on Friday 21 June.
A record turnout of 325 swimmers saw the sun rise whilst braving the cold water on the longest day of the year.
The Friends of Ilkley Lido have thanked all those who attended and Bradford Council staff for running the event.
The long-awaited major capital development at All Saints Ilkley is now complete. On 23rd June there will be a Celebration Service joined by Bishop Toby Howarth and many civic and community representatives. The Church will be open daily from Monday 1st July.
The pool at Ilkley Grammar School has reopened thanks to the school's sports council ‘Plunge for Our Pool’ project and a substantial donation from Puddle Ducks owner Jenny Brown.
Closed in September last year, restoration work on the pool and changing rooms began in March, and just three months later it has reopened.
Members of a creative business hub in Ilkley are looking forward to sharing their wares with the public at a celebratory Open Doors day on Saturday [22 June] from 11am to 3pm.

Bradford Council has announced it will introduce Ilkley's new parking scheme on July 29.
A Bradford Council spokesperson, said: “Residents will start to see the work that is being done to bring on-street parking changes and resident and special permits for businesses in to place over the coming weeks.
“We will be contacting those affected by the changes imminently to let them know about the resident permits as well as those for business parking and how they can apply for the ones that are relevant to them. Permits for residents will be free and the special permits for business will be free for the first six months, after which we will review how the scheme is working.”
Once the changes come in to effect, the council will continue to monitor the situation closely and will make further alterations to ease any issues around parking if needed.

Car break-ins - two males arrested
Police in Ilkley have confirmed the arrest of two males in relation to theft from motor vehicles overnight Monday into Tuesday this week.
Many residents contacted Ilkley Chat with reports of car windows smashed on streets all over Ilkley.
Police say this is still a live investigation and enquires continue.
Four local charities received donations totaling £1,700 from Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary Club at the club’s weekly meeting at the Riverside Hotel.
The money has been raised at Rotary events and at recent supermarket and street collections.
Rotarian Jo Jarvis presented the cheques to Ilkley Good Neighbours, Ilkley Community Transport, the Addingham Hub Project and Community Action Bradford and District (CABAD).

Large fire again on Ilkley Moor
Update (12:05): West Yorkshire Police has confirmed a 48-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with this morning’s fire.
Update (11:35): Crews are now damping down at Ilkley Moor and the fire is largely out. Ten fire engines remain in attendance (via WYFRS)
West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue say they have 10 fire engines currently dealing with a large fire on Ilkley moor, close to Hangingstone Road.
The Control Room received over 65 emergency calls about the fire from 9.50am Saturday morning.
Fire engines are in attendance from: Keighley, Rawdon, Bingley, Killingbeck, Sildsen, Shipley, Cookridge, Fairweather Green, Stanningley and Odsal.
Police have closed Hangingstone Road from Cowpasture Road.
Bradford Council plans to introduce a Public Space Protection Order preventing the lighting of fires and barbecues on moorland sites within Bradford District.
A report will be presented to Bradford Council’s ‘Regulatory and Appeals Committee’ on Monday., followed by a consultation which is required by regulations - this will be on the council's consultation web page.
The Order will last for 3 years from 2nd July 2019 to 1st July 2022 and then will be reviewed.

A fresh vision for Ilkley has been outlined by the new mayor, Mark Stidworthy, after a political shake up at Ilkley Town Council - with ten new councillors out of a total of 14.
Cllr Stidworthy was chosen as mayor at the first meeting since the election. He said he hoped the fresh start would empower local people to work with the council to address urgent challenges such as environmental sustainability. He also called on councillors to listen with humility, think collectively and develop imaginative ways to use public resources to catalyse positive change across Ilkley.
Ros Brown, the newly elected Green councillor will be the new deputy mayor.

Tributes have been paid to Baroness Betty Lockwood who died on April 29, 2019.
Baroness Lockwood was born into a mining family in Dewsbury and in later life lived quietly in the Addingham and Ilkley area.
She was Honorary Member of Ilkley Soroptimists and also Honorary President of Ilkley and District Good Neighbours.

Ilkley Manor House patron, Alan Titchmarsh, will be returning to the Manor House to officially open the Heritage Garden in June.

Bradford Council has published its responses to 1198 formal Ilkley parking review objections.

Officers have upheld or party upheld a handful of objections. No time scale has been given for the implementation of the scheme.

Ilkley U3A's three photo groups are exhibiting the best of their work over the last year. Over 60 images arranged in 6 themes at Ilkley Manor House over the next two weekends Saturday/Sunday 11am to 4pm 11/12 May and 18/19 May.
The latest initiative to improve volunteering in Ilkley and the surrounding area has been launched. The Mayor of Ilkley, in one of his last public roles, joined Mary Hamilton and David Shepherdson at Community Action Ilkley to start the new ball rolling.
Ilkley BID is looking to recruit 12 voluntary Directors who have a broad range of experience and skills, to reflect the mix of businesses who will be contributors to company.

Ilkley Clean River Group are applying for Designated Bathing Water status between the Old Bridge and Denton Bridge to cover the entire area where locals and tourists enjoy the river. This would put pressure on the water agencies to ensure they are not polluting the river with raw sewage.

The neglect of Ilkley’s Riverside Parks is seriously impacting the quality of life and future of the town, according to the Friends of Ilkley Riverside Parks (FOIRP).
Now the volunteer group is sending out a rallying cry to engage the local community in a bid to halt the decay.

Man falls 15m from rocks at Cow & Calf
A 30-year-old man has suffered serious injuries after falling 15m from rocks at the Cow and Calf in Ilkley on Sunday evening around 6.15pm.
The Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association said the man was knocked unconscious and had to be taken to hospital by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The Friends of Ilkley Moor have released photos of an off road driver stuck on the moor earlier this month, highlighting the damage caused by illegal off road driving across the moor
Owen Wells, Chair of the Friends of Ilkley Moor said “It is the height of irresponsibility to drive on the Moor in the middle of the bird nesting season. This driver got well and truly stuck and we have no sympathy with him (or her) at all.”

West Yorkshire Police can confirm that three men have been arrested in connection with a fire on Ilkley Moor yesterday.

Update: One man has been charged with arson, the two other suspects have been released under investigation.
The Friends of Ilkley Moor say they fire has affected an area from White Wells through to Backstone Beck and from the Rocky Valley down to the Tarn.
It is suspected that the fire was accidentally started by some 13/15 year old boys who were having a campfire either in or near the stand of Scots Pine Trees below the Rocky Valley.

Firefighters have been battling a fire close to White Wells on Ilkley moor.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) said several acres of Ilkley Moor caught fire on Saturday afternoon after a day of soaring temperatures.
At its peak 14 engines were on the scene, this was scaled back to around 10 overnight to damp down.

Chef Michael Carr has joined Simon Gueller at the Box Tree in Ilkley as joint head chef.
Simon, owner and joint head chef, told The Caterer he hadn’t been looking to recruit but after being introduced to Carr – who he described as a “really nice bloke, passionate about the food” – felt they could work well together.
He said: “We are both really, really enjoying it and we’re excited about the food we are doing.”
Michael, who joins the team a month after the departure of former head chef Samira Effa, had previously opened Restaurant 92 in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, which closed in January.

Staff at PizzaExpress in Ilkley will be taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks on 20 June in aid of the charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

Ilkley town meeting to discuss parking
Mayor Steve Butler has organised the meeting to enable the town council to gauge public opinion over controversial parking proposals for Ilkley.
The meeting will be open to all Ilkley residents and will take place at 8pm on Thursday, February 28 at the Clarke Foley Centre.
In a letter to the Ilkley Gazette Cllr Butler said 'I have been a Town Councillor for almost eight years and no other problem facing the town has caused so much discussion and debate in all that time. Some people are in favour of the proposed changes and some are not; some agree with part of the plans but object to the rest. The businesses in town appear to be united in feeling that their firms, and especially their employees, will suffer. It has proved impossible to find out the overall opinion of town residents about the scheme as a whole so that the town council can put forward a consistent representative view.'

The RMT have suspended all planned train strikes
RMT suspends Northern strike action after major ACAS talks breakthrough ends two years of deadlock.
A union spokesperson said today 'that substantial progress in talks through the offices of ACAS has allowed the union’s executive to suspend the on-going programme of strike action on Northern Rail over the retention and the role of the guard on their trains.'
'Through the talks process the company have now offered a guarantee of a conductor on all trains, including the new fleet, for the duration of the current franchise. The guarantee is supported by the Department for Transport.'
Further talks, involving all stakeholders, will now seek further agreement on operational models moving forwards.
With regards to this Saturday (Feb 9) Northern have said 'changing a strike timetable back to a normal timetable is a very complex task. It is unfortunately too late for Northern to reintroduce a full timetable in time.'

Aldi advert being filmed on The Grove
Supermarket Aldi have chosen Ilkley to film its latest commercial.
An appeal went out on Ilkley Chat last week for 'extras' to appear, so you may see a few familiar faces when the advert airs. The advert will feature The Brownlee Brothers.

Heavy snow on the way Tuesday?
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued by the Met Office from noon Tuesday until 11am Wednesday. Rain and sleet will turn to snow, expected to be heavy late afternoon, then turning icy in the evening/overnight. Untreated roads and pavements could be hazardous.
During the monthly meeting of Ilkley Community groups and businesses, the Round Table of Ilkley gave a presentation about their Half Marathon which is being held on Sunday 14 July at 10.30am.
After lengthy discussion and much consideration, Ilkley Town Council has taken the decision to increase the precept for 2019/20 to £330,615. A Band D household in Ilkley currently pays £40.39 per year will rise to £46.60.

Support for a Business Improvement District in Ilkley is gathering momentum as the Development Board and Manager continue to meet face to face with business owners to discuss the project ahead of the launch on Tuesday 29 January.
The council’s head of libraries and museums, Maggie Pedley, addressed the public meeting on Friday evening to discuss what would need to be done to save the money.
The Ilkley Gazette reports the main proposals involve libraries becoming “community hubs” which offer a wide range of services beyond the usual book lending.
£530,000 needs to save in the coming financial year, which will be achieved under the proposals — which have to be ratified by the council — via staffing levels, sharing resources and reducing the budget for buying books and other materials by 30 per cent.
In the following financial year a further £1 million has to be cut from the budget, asked if this meant there would inevitably be library closures, Mrs Pedley said it was the council’s “ambition” not to close any libraries, and that while she could not guarantee anything she “hoped not”.

Update on the public toilets closure
Towards the end of 2018 the roof collapsed at the South Hawksworth Street car park which also damaged the light fittings, so the building had to been closed for health and safety reasons.
Ilkley Town Council have told Ilkley Chat work on the new roof is commencing on 28 January and should take approximately one week to fix.

Another call to Ilkley for the UWFRA volunteers
The Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) team were called Friday to assist a female who had fallen and sustained a lower leg injury whilst out walking in the Cow & Calf area of Ilkley moor.
The casualty was located by phone to the locally known 'Crocodile Rock' and members were dispatched there to help. Suspecting an ankle fracture the team administered Entinox to the patient before splinting the limb. The team then stretchered the lady down to the car park where a friend collected her and took her to hospital

Ilkley BID Launch Event
The launch of the Ilkley Business Improvement District Business Plan will take place at the Ticket Office Bar on Tuesday 29 January, 5.30-6.30pm.
It is a chance to find out the key projects Ilkley businesses want to see implemented by the BID, take a look at the plans and ask any questions ahead of voting in March.

Burglars are travelling from as far as Manchester and Lancashire to target homes in Ilkley, Councillors have been told.
Inspector Khalid Khan of the Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team spoke at a meeting of Bradford Council’s Keighley Area Committee about the operations in place to tackle these burglars.

Booth supermarket submits plans for electric vehicle charging stations *update
*Plans have been approved.
Booths supermarket in Ilkley has submitted a planning application to Bradford Council to install four rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging stations within the car park.
If plans are approved, the first four bays would have the equipment installed.
This follows the announcement last month that a charging point will be installed at Hawksworth Street Car Park, part of a project which will see 88 rapid charging points installed in West Yorkshire before March 2020.
Ilkley Carnival is hoping the wider community will benefit from a huge cash boost after it secured a place in the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.
The organisation is one of three currently receiving instore customer ‘blue token’ votes from shoppers and could net from £1,000 up to £4,000 from the Tesco community funding scheme which uses money raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores.
Santa Claus is coming to town
Ilkley Round Table member will once again help out Santa as he makes his way around Addingham, Ilkley and Ben Rhydding in his float from Sunday 9 December, while Santa will be on his sleigh as he visits the boys and girls in Burley in Wharfedale from Sunday 16 December.

The inaugural Ilkley Half Marathon is ready, set and go for a stunning road race on 14th July 2019 that will take competitors through the centre of Ilkley and around the picturesque surrounds of Wharfedale.
Ghyll Royd School and Pre-School pupils are celebrating as their school has been shortlisted as one of the best Prep Schools in the country. The Independent School of the Year Awards was set up this year by Independent School Parent magazine and aims to showcase school success stories and celebrate the student services they provide. Ghyll Royd School is one of five shortlisted schools, and the only school in Yorkshire to be nominated for the Prep School award.

22nd Annual Grand Charity Christmas Fayre
Fifteen charities took part in the annual Grand Charity Christmas on Saturday 1st December at the Clarke Foley Centre.
The Fayre was opened by Isabel Ashman, the Town Crier and, in spite of the weather, people turned out to enjoy the festive live music from members of New Horizons followed by the Chippendale Singers.
There was a variety of stalls offering Christmas goods and the chance to win prizes in an assortment of raffles and tombolas. All the money raised went to the charities taking part.
The event was organised by Ilkley Friends of Martin House Children’s Hospice.

Ilkley indoor pool set to reopen this weekend
Following lengthy roof repairs, Ilkley Pool is expected to re-open this Saturday, 8 December.
The building work was estimated to take 10 weeks when it started in July, however when contractors lifted the roof it became apparent the whole roof needed replacing.
Council staff are now refilling the pool and will start to heat the water on Tuesday and they expect to open the doors on Saturday.

Abbeyfield launch Companionship at Christmas
Abbeyfield have launch its annual drive, Companionship at Christmas, to help raise awareness of, and alleviate, the loneliness felt amongst older people in our communities across the festive period. It is estimated that 500,000 older people will be spending Christmas day alone.
Last year Abbeyfield helped over 500 older people enjoy the warmth of Christmas and this year want to do more. The aim is to welcome in as many older people as they can, to make new friends and to make sure that everybody has somebody to celebrate Christmas with.
They are offering free lunches during December until 1st January 2018. On Christmas Day there will be a small charge of £5 per person. Some activities may have a minimal charge.

Christmas came early for local causes in and around Ilkley this week, when the Co-op revealed a £65,000 festive funding boost.
The money will be shared by 11 organisations, all of whom are making a real difference to communities throughout the region. These include Ilkley and District Good Neighbours and Ben Rhydding Scout and Guide Group.

Friends of Ilkley Riverside Parks is a new Group which has been set up to work with the Council with the aim of improving the Parks and Recreational areas beside the River Wharfe in Ilkley and developing new ideas on how the Park areas can better serve the residents of Ilkley and District and others who come to visit Ilkley.

No Bradford train service during 1 December strike
Train services will not run between Ilkley and Bradford Forster Square during this Saturday's RMT 24 hour strike.
A far reduced service will run between Ilkley and Leeds, with the first train leaving Ilkley at 08:40 and last back from Leeds at 17:03. Download the revised timetable HERE.

Get your tickets for the 2019 Ilkley Beer Festival this Saturday (1 Dec) between 9.30-11.30am at Kings Hall/Winter Garden in Ilkley.

After 16 amazing years as Artistic Director Rachel Feldberg will be moving on from Ilkley Literature Festival this December.
Reflecting on her time as director, Rachel said: “It has been a privilege to work for the Festival and I have enjoyed my time enormously – from our ground-breaking work with young writers, to inspiring children in schools across Bradford and Leeds and bringing incredible authors like Maya Angelou to Ilkley, I am extremely proud of what we have been able to achieve."
The search for Rachel’s replacement will start in the new year, with the new director taking up the appointment from spring 2019.

A bob for Bobby: teenager donates hair to charity
Bobby Arrowsmith, 17, from Ilkley is cutting 12 inches off her flowing, auburn hair, this weekend and donating it charity to be made into wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair through illness, such as cancer.
Bobby was inspired to cut her hair after seeing how a childhood friend benefitted from receiving wigs from the Little Princess Trust when they were growing up together.
Bobby will be having her hair cut at 8am on Saturday 24 November at William David Hair Salon.

Ilkley Cycling Club has donated £2,700 to support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service. Every year, the Club hosts a mass-ride sportive event, the White Rose Classic which attracts 1000 riders to experience three routes through the Yorkshire Dales. This year, the Club designated the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as the event charity.

Supermarket Booths has issued an urgent recall notice for its own brands Mince Pies, 4 pack with a best before date 12/01/19.
This is a precaution as there have been 2 complaints of plastic within the mince pies. All affected products have been removed from sale, but customers are asked to return any affected products to stores for a full refund. Booths have apologised and said it is investigating.

Ilkley remembers
There was a wonderful turnout for Ilkley's Remembrance Service this afternoon which saw the unveiling of a new memorial dedicated to the local men who survived the war, but who have passed away during the century since.
Earlier in the morning after the silence at 11am the names of all Ilkley's war dead were read out on the steps of the war memorial.
240 poppies were ‘planted’ on Saturday to commemorate the 220 men and women resident in Ilkley were killed in action during the four years of the First World War. A further 20 more pupils of Ilkley Grammar School who lived outside the town were also lost in the conflict.
The collection raised a fantastic £1898.91 for the Royal British Legion which is the most ever raised!

Ilkley pool to re-open in December
Following lengthy roof repairs, Ilkley Pool is expected to re-open the first week of December.

Cancer care will be available in Ilkley and Burley in Wharfedale as cancer charity Hope for Tomorrow and Airedale NHS Foundation Trust officially launched a new Mobile Cancer Care Unit (MCCU) for West Yorkshire.
The state of the art MCCU, which is 6 car parking widths wide and has 4 treatment chairs, has been designed to enable flexibility for treatment locations. These locations are determined by the hospital, depending on where the patient need is greatest, so can be completely flexible. Booths Supermarket in Ilkley and the Generous Pioneer in Burley-in-Wharfedale are two locations where the MCCU will give cancer care.
Historic White Wells "could fall into disrepair" because of rent increase
At Monday's meeting, Ilkley Town Council discussed Bradford Council's plans to increase White Wells rent by thousands of pounds and the opening hours, and how an important part of the town's history could fall into disrepair or force the current tenants out.
Ward councillor Anne Hawkesworth has contacted Bradford Council on behalf of Joanne and Mark who have run the cafe for nearly 20 years.
Councillors pledged their support for the couple and they stressed it would be difficult to find other tenants to take on the task of acting as caretakers at the property.
On Sunday 4th November, All Saints Ilkley held its final service before major renovations by Ilkley-based Dobson Construction who has been appointed as the main contractor.
At the end of the final hymn, Nathan Woolloff unscrewed the brass fitting from one of the pews as a symbolic start to the work.
Ilkley will pay its respects to those killed or injured in conflicts around the world on Remembrance Sunday with a service at the Memorial Gardens on the Grove at 3pm.

Police appeal after woman dies from crash in Ilkley
Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Ilkley yesterday afternoon (01/11).
Officers were called at 3.23pm to Brook Street to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a single-decker bus. The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, died as a result of her injuries.
The driver of the bus remained at the scene and has been helping officers with their enquiries. The road was closed while emergency services attended the scene.
Detectives in the Major Collision Enquiry Team are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the collision to contact police. Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting log 1245 of 01/11.
More rail strikes announced
Members of the RMT union have announced a further 7 strike days on Saturdays affecting Northern rail services.
They'll now walk out every Saturday up to and including 29 December, which will be 19 consecutive Saturdays.
This year's Ilkley Scare Trail has been hailed as a huge success after attracting over 3000 people to the two trails on Saturday 27 October.
Tributes have been paid to Ilkley based artist, Graeme Willson, who died on Saturday aged 67.
Graeme who was an important figure in the Public Mural and Public Art Movements with a broad spread of work, had recently been treated for cancer of the oesophagus.
His work included prestigious ecclesiastical commissions, as well as many murals for Morrison's Supermarkets.

Tesco manager presents award cheque to Ilkley Manor House
The Friends of Ilkley Manor House were this week presented with a cheque from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme for £4,000.
Sarita Prashar, Tesco Store Manager and collegue Aaron Carter handed over the cheque which will fund the enhancement of the gardens at the Manor House to become a sensory garden. Designed to appeal to all the senses, the garden will include fragrant, colourful flowers and herbs as well as water and sensitively created sounds and also plants with interesting shapes and textures.
The Friends and the Trust thanked Tesco for their help with this exciting scheme.
Online training provider High Speed Training have now had over one million learners certified on their training platform. The Ilkley based company reached the milestone on Wednesday 24th October after setting the target in January to be reached within the year.
The long-awaited major developments at All Saints Ilkley are about to get under way, services will be held at the Clarke Foley Centre from 11 November.
The building works will give a more flexible and friendly space not only for worship and weddings but also for community activities, concerts, exhibitions, performances, conferences and meetings. And there will be improved access.

Burley climber now ranked number one!
Emma Powell from Burley in Wharfedale is now ranked number 1 in Great Britain after competing in the British Tooling Series in September and October.
The competition, which was held in three locations over three weekend, saw each contestant gain points by climbing walls, including ice walls, against the clock.
The first round was held in Keswick where Emma missed out of 1st place by five seconds. The second round was at Marple in Stockport where Emma gained 1st place, and in the final round, held at Kinlochleven in the Highlands, Emma won and gained 1st place overall.
Emma has now set her sights on competing in the Ice Climbing World Championships next in France and Switzerland and the Youth Ice Climbing Championships in Finland in 2019.

The members of Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary Club send their thanks to all those who contributed to the Street Collection on Saturday to assist with disaster relief for the Indonesian Earthquake and Tsunami.

Almost 90 overs 90s attend annual Ilkley party
Last Saturday Ilkley and District Good Neighbours organised the 31st annual Over 90s Party at the Clarke Foley Centre, Ilkley. What an afternoon!
Ilkley businesses are invited to have their say how £500,000 could be invested in the town over five years. It is all part of the process of setting up a Business Improvement District - Ilkley BID - funded by a small charge based on business rate valuation. BID supporters say it is needed to give businesses a collective voice to represent their interests with the Local Authorities and other agencies.
On Thursday, October 11 there will be a day of presentations and drop in sessions, 07:45 at Ilkley Meeting Room, 12:30 at Ilkley Town Hall and 17:30 at The Yard.

After holding a Michelin star since 2005, Ilkley's Box Tree restaurant has missed out in the 2019 awards announced last night.
Owner Simon Gueller said he was “hugely disappointed” but that he had faith in his team after a change of head chef and a recent refurbishment, saying "we cook for our customers and will continue to do so, and I will do everything I can to make sure we get that star back."

From Monday 1 October there will be a new out-of-hours local GP service, an extended access hub, being held at Addingham Medical Centre open to all Wharfedale registered patients, which includes Addingham, Ilkley & Wharfedale, Ilkley Moor Medical Practice and Grange Park in Burley in Wharfedale.
Evening, weekend and bank holiday pre-bookable appointments will be available - Monday to Friday from 6:30pm – 8:00pm / Saturday and Sunday from 09:00am – 11:00am / Bank Holidays from 09:00am – 11:00am.
These appointments can be booked in advance or on the same day (Monday – Thursday) for a routine medical matter, subject to availability and the reason for your appointment. Speak to you registered GP practice to find out more and easily make an appointment.

The death of John Cunliffe last Thursday aged 85 in his home town of Ilkley has sparked a wave of heartbreak from children and adults.

John was the creator of the much-loved children's characters Postman Pat and Rosie and Jim.
North Yorkshire County Council and its contractors told a public meeting this week that the work to complete a permanent repair to the A59 at Kex Gill would take eight weeks and will begin on Monday 8 October. During the work one lane will remain open under traffic light control, with just one week of complete closure at the end to allow resurfacing with a diversion through Ilkley and Otley.
Ilkley Literature Festival 2018 kicks off Friday
Ilkley Literature Festival officially starts tomorrow, 28 September, running until 14 October at various venues around town.
Kicking off the 2018 Festival is BBC Apprentice and Channel 4 Countdown star Nick Hewer. Other highlights include comedian and ‘Strictly’ star Susan Calman, poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy and hugely successful fiction author Joanna Trollope.

Work to expand Ilkley Grammar School is set to begin on October 1.
The project is being led by Bradford Council with a £3.2m grant from the Department for Education to meet the demand for secondary school places
The existing school buildings will be revamped and a new teaching block will be built.
The RMT has announced a further three train strike days planned on Saturdays - 6, 13 & 20 October - so a total of nine consecutive Saturdays from the start on 25 August.

12 year old Alice Locker has won Ilkley Literature Festival’s cake decorating competition after wowing judges from Bettys and Nigel Walsh, chairman of the Festival Board, with the airbrushing and stencilling skill on her cake - Steam Punk Tin Man’s Heart from The Wizard of Oz cake.
The competition was run to celebrating baking super star Nadiya Hussain coming to Ilkley ahead of the start of the Festival on Friday, September 28.

Ilkley Pool to remain closed until end of November
Bradford Council have said today it hopes that repairs to the roof at Ilkley Pool will be completed by the end of November.
The indoor pool closed on 16 July for the works and it was initially expected to take around eight weeks, reopening mid September. However once the inside of the roof was exposed it became apparent that the work required was more extensive than first thought.
The Ilkley Lido summer season was extended by a couple of weeks but closed last weekend, the council blaming cooler weather and low user numbers for its closure. Last week there were just 167 customers and on Saturday the Lido took just £4.00. The Lido will reopen for the next summer season in May 2019.
The council says it will be working with Ilkley Swimming Club to try to meet their needs.

Yorkshire Water says more untreated waste water will be retained in tanks, as opposed to spilling down the overflow, at its treatment site in Ilkley thanks to a newly installed pump.
The move follows complaints from local residents about raw sewage spilling down the overflow at the Ashlands Road waste water treatment site and into the River Wharfe.
A packed programme has been announced for the North’s biggest literature festival in Ilkley between 28th September – 14th October 2018
Ilkley Jazz Festival is in its 5th year and to mark this special occasion the festival commissioned Jamil Sheriff, one of the UK’s leading jazz pianists and composer who is also the head of jazz at Leeds College of Music, to write a piece of music about Ilkley, it’s landscape and it’s mythologies.
The bar Banyan in Ilkley has had to remove some of its outdoor seating after "lots of" complaints from local residents. Councillor Anne Hawksworth says tables and chairs at Banyan on Brook Street were blocking the main pedestrian route into town - causing people to walk single file and in the road.
Banyan were asked by Bradford Council on Friday to reduce the area to 30 per cent of the pavement, from around 60 per cent, which they did immediately. The area will be reviewed again in two weeks' time to see if it can be increased slightly.

Life saving defibrillator installed at Ben Rhydding Golf Club
Ben Rhydding Golf Club have installed an automatic defibrillator outside the Clubhouse, which is not just for the use of the club, but also the local community of Ben Rhydding.
The defibrillator was purchased through Yorkshire Ambulance and Community First Responders and was.part funded by Ilkley Round Table who donated 50% of the cost, with the remaining 50% from the current Ben Rhydding Golf Club Captain's charity money.
Ilkley Youth and Community Association have prepared a programme funded with the assistance of Ilkley Town Council, The Rotary Club of Ilkley and Ilkley Wharfedale, Keighley Area Committee.

The BBC have followed up coverage on Ilkley Chat and from Stray FM on the story that Yorkshire Water is pumping raw sewage, including solids, from its treatment works on Ashlands Road in Ilkley into the River Wharfe.
This should only happen in storm conditions, but Steve Fairburn from Ilkley Anglers Association has been monitoring the sewage issue for three years and said it is released almost every time it rains.

Drop into the Manor House on any Saturday morning during Ilkley’s Summer Festival in August when Friends of the Manor House will be presenting coffee and cake with Pop Up Performances. North Yorkshire County Council’s executive will be asked to adopt the proposed preferred route for the realignment of the A59 at Kex Gill when it meets on Tuesday 24 July. The alignment would run along the northern slope of the gill. It would be a 5.4km-long single carriageway incorporating climbing lanes for slow-moving vehicles.
In a public consultation last year, more than 90 per cent of respondents supported the need to realign the route. A further local consultation, which ended on 12 July, enabled people to view and comment on the proposed preferred route. Again, this showed strong support for the realignment.
It is anticipated construction could start in the financial year 2019-20 and the road could take 14 months to complete.
Ilkley and District Round Table are drawing up plans to give Ilkley its own annual half-marathon, the inaugural event could be held late March 2019 and give people in the North of England a race that they can use to train for the London Marathon.

The family of Paul Gaunt, of Addingham, who passed away suddenly due to a huge heart attack whilst on holiday in June is campaigning to ensure everyone has access to life-saving cardiac screening.
Yorkshire Water is playing down concerns, after one resident claimed sewage is being pumped into the River Wharfe in Ilkley on a regular basis.
Waste from a treatment works on Ashlands Road near the suspension bridge is only supposed to be released into the water under storm or snow melt conditions.
But resident Karen Shackleton says the sewage is being pumped into the river too often, every time it rains.
She says she last noticed discharge on the 16th June after a rain shower which lasted ten minutes.

A59 Kex Gill now open single file
The A59 at Kex Gill has reopened to single-file traffic under traffic light control after safety test over the weekend.
Since its closure in May traffic has been diverted via Ilkley and Otley causing traffic congestion.
North Yorkshire County Council say over the coming weeks, the road will continue to be monitored daily for any further movement.

Man charged over bike thefts from Ilkley railway station
An 18-year-old man has been charged in connection with the theft of bikes from Leeds and Ilkley railway stations.
Connor Amps, of Shakespeare Gardens in Burmantofts, Leeds has been charged with six counts of cycle theft and one count of going equipped to steal following a BTP investigation.
He will appear before Leeds Magistrates' court on Friday 20 July.

Hanneke's uncle was married to a non-Jew.

Water warning after two girls rescued from River Wharfe
On Tuesday evening, a fire crew from Ilkley were on a training exercise at the riverside in Ilkley, which quickly turned into a real incident.
Two young girls got into difficulty by the river near the swing bridge/beach area and had to be rescued, fortunately the crew were on hand to assist and give first aid.
Authorities would like to remind people of the dangers of going into the water despite the appeal in this very warm weather, there are many risks such as hidden debris and underwater currents that you can't see hidden below the surface.

A teenager has been locked up for his part in breaking into a house in Ilkley to steal a high-powered car and driving dangerously as police gave pursuit.
Omar Powell, 19, of Bank, Eccleshill, was part of a four-strong masked gang that broke into a home in order to steal the spare key for an Audi.
Powell drove off in the £28,000 car with Harrison Bako, also 19, of Park Avenue, Thackley, on May 12.
But a neighbour who had been fixing a window nearby saw the gang as they broke into the property and alerted police.

Warning of moor fire hazard
With firefighters currently tackling a large moor fire in Saddleworth it seems a good time to remind everyone of the massive fire risk with the moorland being extremely dry at the moment.
PLEASE DO NOT light fires or barbecues on the moor, make sure cigarettes and matches are properly extinguished and always take your litter home, including any glass bottles.
If you spot smoke or fire you should report it to West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service immediately by calling 999 and give its location as precisely as possible.
Ilkley hosted one of the 121,988 Great Get Together’s happening around the country on Sunday enjoyed by over 400 and raising £1,000 for Ilkley Good Neighbours, and £197 for Grenfell Tower families.
The 5th annual Ilkley Cycle Races take place on Wednesday, starting with the under 14s at 5:55 pm and a full programme of races concluding with the prize presentation at around 10 pm.

Update on the A59 closure at Kex Gill / A65 diversion through Ilkley
Following investigations since the closure on 30 May repair work will start this week.
Although estimates suggest they could take three weeks to complete, the interim benefit of the work could be to facilitate the opening of the A59 to single-line traffic under traffic light control.

Children in primary schools up and down the Wharfe Valley are learning more about nature thanks to an initiative by Ilkley woman Debbie Davitt.
Earlier in the year Debbie read in a national newspaper about a campaign in other parts of the country to put a copy of a book called ‘The Lost Words’ into primary schools and decided to do the same for her local schools.

Bank holiday overflowing bins
Cllr Anne Hawkesworth has said she received many emails complaining about bins overflowing and the lack of cleansing over the weekend and has contacted Bradford Council about the situation.

Bradford Council have tweeted today saying crews were out yesterday (Tuesday) and returning today to hopefully complete after the bank holiday weekend.

1st Burley-in-Wharfedale Brownies have launched the Bookmark Project, where doodles from a whole host on famous names go under the hammer, raising money for Katiyo Primary School in Zimbabwe.
The bank holiday weekend in Ilkley was marred by violence which the town's MP has called "deeply shocking and unacceptable".

Fire on Ilkley Moor
West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service have dealt with a small fire on the moor next to Hangingstone Road on Sunday afternoon. The cause at the moment is unknown, but serves as a reminder not to discard cigarettes or hold barbecues on the moor during dry weather.

Multiple car accident closes A65 at Chelker for several hours
Emergency services were called to the A65 close to Addingham around 8:40 this morning following an accident involving multiple vehicles.
Fire engines, land ambulances, paramedics, air ambulance and police were on the scene and the road was closed for several hours as investigation teams attended.
Multiple casualties were taken to hospital, one person had to be airlifted suffering from suspected neck, abdominal and pelvic pain.

Event tackling loneliness in Ilkley
Ilkley and District U3A in partnership with Bradford Community Action have organised an event tackling loneliness at the Winter Garden in Ilkley next Monday, 30 April.
Working Together will see more than twenty community groups showing visitors the wide range of activities available across the district.
When doors open at 9.30am the chairman of Ilkley Parish Council, Cllr Steve Butler, will give a welcoming speech and Ilkley Town Crier, Isabel Ashman, will make sure people know about it!
The event finishes at 1pm, admission is free with with refreshments available.

Tour de Yorkshire flag to fly over Ilkley
The official Ilkley flag for this year’s Tour de Yorkshire was raised at a ceremony on Brook Street in Ilkley on April 19, pupils from Ilkley Grammar who are all keen cyclists took part in the event.
The flag was presented to representatives from Bradford Council by Welcome to Yorkshire to help celebrate the race coming to the district on May 4 and 6.
Stage 2 of this year’s Tour de Yorkshire will have a summit finish at the Cow and Calf Rocks in Ilkley on Friday 4 May. The town will also see the women’s race finish in the same place on the same day.

On Monday 7 May 2018 there will be road closures in place on various roads in Ilkley as part of the annual Ilkley Carnival. This will affect two main areas – the route of the parade and Denton Road.

Another record year for the Ilkley Macmillan Committee
The 12th Ilkley Macmillan Fashion Show was held at the Best Western Plus Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley last Thursday and raised a record £12,500 for the charity.
A sell-out crowd browsed the many stalls before sitting down for a meal and the main event, the fashion show. Pictured are the amateur models on the catwalk for the finale, many of whom support the event every year.
In 2017 the committee marked a milestone raising an incredible £250,000 for Macmillan over the 25 years.
Ghyll Royd School and Pre-School has been awarded a Gold Award by the National Woodland Trust. The Ilkley Primary School has been awarded for its consistent involvement in green activities including tree planting, visiting local woodland, reducing carbon emissions through recycling as an Eco School and offering children the opportunity to bring the great outdoors, wildlife and green issues into the classroom.

Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry winner Imtiaz Dharker will be the Poet in Residence at the 2018 Ilkley Literature Festival.
Imtiaz will be following in the footsteps of previous luminaries who have held the role, such as Daljit Nagra, Andrew Macmillan and Kim Moore. As Poet in Residence, she’ll be putting her own mark on the festival programme with a curated strand of poetry events, as well as taking part in readings of her own work, and running workshops for new and emerging poets. Imtiaz will also be judging the annual Walter Swan Poetry Competition and acting as mentor to the Apprentice Poet in Residence, applications for which post are now open.

End of flooding on Leeds Road
Repairs are set to be completed this weekend which should put a stop to the flooding outside the Esso garage/Tesco Express on A65 in Ilkley.
Cllr Anne Hawkesworth contacted Bradford Council a number of times and last Sunday contractors began cutting the tree roots blocking the drain and removed a substantial amount of debris. They are now planning to return this weekend to complete the works.

Sales of Bubble Bath to support Ilkley Carnival
The Ticket Office Bar will be donating 50p from each glass of its 'Bubble Bath' cocktail sold between 4-7 May to Ilkley Carnival, the drink is created using bubble gum flavouring, grapefruit vodka, Aperol, lemon and rhubarb.
Ilkley Carnival tickets will be available to buy at various locations around town including The Ticket Office in the coming weeks, buying in advance will save you money - £13 for a family ticket (2 adults/2 children), £5 for an adult and £2 for children/OAPs. Only individual tickets will be available on carnival day priced at £6 per adult and £2 per child/OAP.
The 2018 primary beneficiary is the Burley Scout and Guide Group who will receive half of all profits, the remaining half will be distributed between other local good causes.

Ilkley and District Round Table are pleased to announce a donation of £3,995 to the Wharfedale Scouts Sailing Centre (WSCC) towards the cost of purchasing a new bellboat, which will be delivered in time for the 2018 season.
Plans by Bradford Council to introduce charges for parking at the town's swimming pool and lido have been slammed.
Councillor Anne Hawkesworth (Ind, Ilkley) said she was "completely astounded" by the proposed introduction of charges at the current time.
She said she had understood no new parking measures would be introduced until Bradford Council had formulated a response to a car parking consultation it carried out in July 2017.

Ilkley-born, Alan Titchmarsh, cut the ribbon Thursday lunchtime as Ilkley Manor House transfers to community control. Alan has become a new patron of the Manor House, which will operate as a new heritage, arts and community venue.
Police are investigating two attacks on Ilkley Taxi drivers.
In the first on Easter Monday, when a man approached a taxi which was parked in the main car park and used a hammer to smash the back window screen.
The second incident took place around 11pm on Tuesday when a taxi driver picked up a female fare in Ilkley to take her to Otley. It is alleged the woman started to shout at the driver and when he tried to calm her down she pulled his hand brake and began attacking him physically and verbally.
Police have arrested a women in her 60s and ask anyone who can assist with enquiries to contact police in Keighley on 101, quoting crime reference 13180154386.

Grammar School plans get the green light
Bradford Council planners have approved plans for a new teaching block at Ilkley Grammar School.
The 15 classroom building with dining and flexible learning space will be built on a netball court at the lower end of the site, between the sports hall and tennis courts.
Plans also include removal of three existing temporary classroom blocks, reinstatement of former car park area and demolition of Block 10.
Building work must begin within three years.

After the car park and riverside public toilets were threatened with closure last year in a swathe of Bradford Council cuts, the parish council agreed a “modest sum” for the toilets to ensure they will remain open for the town’s residents and visitors.
Bradford Council said Ilkley Riverside toilets had annual running costs of £9,000 and the carpark toilets running costs of £35,900. Cllr Gibbons has successfully negotiated deals which will see both facilities cost the parish council around £20,000 a year to run.
The cost of spending a penny at the carpark toilets will remain at 20p and an honesty box will be installed at the Riverside Gardens facilities.

Local policeman Bill Pitt has died aged 80. At six feet six tall and seventeen stone, he was well known on the beat around Ilkley for almost thirty years.
His funeral is to be held on Friday 6 April at 11am at St. Johns Church in Ben Rhydding, all welcome.
A rainbow-patterned television watched from a vibrant green sofa is the winner of this year's Ilkley Carnival creative competition!

Ilkley bar celebrates first 100 days with cash boost for cancer research
Ticket Office Bar has donated £250 to Ilkley Candlelighters through sales of its signature Rhubarb Triangle cocktail, of which 500 have been sold since the venue opened 100 days ago.
Alison Clay, chair of Ilkley Candlelighters said, “We’re very grateful to The Ticket Office for supporting Ilkley Candlelighters, a group run entirely by volunteers so that every penny we raise can go directly to fighting children’s cancer in Yorkshire.”
Lawrence Doyle, General Manager at The Ticket Office said, “Our Rhubarb Triangle cocktails have proved extremely popular. Since we opened 100 days ago we’ve sold a staggering 500 of them and we’re delighted to be able to support the work of Ilkley Candlelighters with a donation of 50p for every Rhubarb triangle sold so far.”

In a meeting of the full council on Thursday, Bradford Council has decided that Council Tax will be increased by 5.99% in 2018-19, equivalent to £75.35 on a Band D property, to fund Bradford Council services and is proposed to increase again by 1.99% in 2019-20.

The film is set in an idyllic Yorkshire spa town during its annual literary festival. As the world’s most controversial secularist is set to make an appearance, two hapless evangelicals are tasked with killing him. Harry Melling, Vinette Robinson and Flora Spencer-Longhurst also star.
Finance is coming from Screen Yorkshire, Ivy Gate Films, Umedia and Featuristic Films. Principal photography is scheduled to begin later this month in Yorkshire.

The Ilkley Carnival committee has announced The Burley Joint Scout & Guide Group as the primary beneficiary of this year’s TV themed May Day event.
Half of the profits from this year’s Ilkley Carnival, will provide facilities and equipment within the Group’s new building which is expected to be complete and open by December.
The remaining half of funds raised will be shared between other local causes, charities and organisations.
The Talking Stone Exhibition - finding meaning in the landscape of Ilkley Moor, is on display at Ilkley Manor House between February 17 and 25.
The Talking Stone exhibition represents the artist, Filippa Dobson's, quest to find meaning in the landscape of Ilkley Moor.
The manager of the Bolton Bridge Co-op in Ilkley, Ian Brown, has handed over a cheque to Macmillan Cancer Support for £2,500.
The money is the result of a year of fundraising in 2017 by staff from the Co-op stores in the area.

Known for its February ‘Beer-Fest’, Ilkley venue the Yard has raised the bar even further this year with a ‘Craft beer and Cask festival’ sponsored by ‘Greene King’ which will run alongside the annual Ilkley Beer Festival hosted at the Kings Hall.
The Yard's festival will kick off on Friday 9th February and will showcase over 30 beers. Encompassing craft beers from around the globe, as well as over 20 cask ales from Yorkshire and beyond. The weekend will feature live music from 5pm Friday and DJs until late.

Annual Charity Race Night raises over £3000
Ilkley resident, Andy Sharpe, raised over £3000 at his annual Charity Race Night which was held Friday night at the Hollygarth on Leeds Road.
£2,000 will be donated to his 2018 London Marathon fundraising for Clic Sargent who support Young Children with Cancer, with £200 each heading to Martin House Hospice, Shelter, Mind, Tanyels Smile and the Olivia Faulkner Foundation.

Forecasts show Ilkley Grammar School could have a shortfall of 118 places by 2020. The proposed expansion will allow the school to increase its intake of students from 261 to 300 a year from September 2019, for which funding of £4.7 million has been approved.
Plans have been submitted to Bradford Council’s planning department. to build a new three storey teaching block with 15 classrooms, dining and flexible learning space including ancillary support and service areas. The application also includes the removal of three existing temporary classroom blocks and the reinstatement of a former car park area with 13 spaces and demolition of Block 10. The proposed site for the additional teaching and learning facilities is currently occupied by a multi use games area in the north-east corner of the school campus. The site for the additional car parking spaces is in the north-west of the school’s main vehicle entrance, which is currently occupied by two temporary classrooms.

Michael Davies, Ilkley resident and founder of charity Principle Trust, was awarded with an MBE from The Duke of Cambridge Tuesday afternoon.
The Honour has been awarded for “Services to Business and to Disadvantaged Children in North Yorkshire”. The Principle Trust gives disadvantaged children & their families the opportunity to go on holiday.

Closing Ilkley Gardeners' Association invite donation requests
Ilkley Gardeners' Association, which is closing permanently at the end of the year, is currently looking for Ilkley projects which would benefit from a donation from its funds. The committee would prefer horticultural based projects, but will consider all requests.

Ilkley Parish Council has passed a resolution that it should have the status of a Town Council from May 21, 2018.
The resolution was proposed by Cllr Butler and seconded by Cllr Mark Stidworthy, who stressed the need to avoid confusion about the role of the Parish Council. He said: "Many people still think we only represent a parish, something to do with a church, but are confused because there are three different church parishes in Ilkley."
There is little practical difference between a Town and Parish Council except that Town Councils appoint a Town Mayor to chair their meetings and lead the Council generally, as well as a Deputy Mayor.
New train timetable starts this Sunday on Wharfedale Line
New timetables comes into operation from Sunday December 10.
On the Wharfedale Line, changes to Sunday services include Ilkley to Bradford Forster Square trains increased in frequency to run every hour and Ilkley to Leeds trains are being retimed with an earlier departure at 08:32.

Huge turn out for the Ilkley Christmas lights switch on
Hundreds lined The Grove for the switch on of Ilkley's Christmas Lights on Saturday afternoon.
The crowds braved the cold and enjoyed performances from Rock Your Socks Off, Upstagers, That Sing Thing, Performance Dance School and both Gusieley Brass and Bradford Metropolitan Concert bands, before Father Christmas arrived in his carriage to flick the switch. Nick Hancock from Stray FM hosted the event, which also featured Isabel Ashman - Ilkley Town Crier and a surprise appearance from the Dan's Den at Christchurch lion.
For the first time there was a small Real Food Ilkley festive market, which it's hoped will return for 2018 with a few more additions.

Ilkley will be a Penalty Fares station
Ilkley, along with all stations on the Wharfedale and Airedale lines will become 'Penalty Fares' railway stations from December 6. This means you must have a ticket before you travel, otherwise you may have to pay £20 or twice the full single, which ever is the greater.
A Penalty Fare scheme works on the same principle as a 'pay and display' car park, where motorists may have to pay a penalty if they do not buy a ticket when they park. Where the facility to do so has been provided, you must purchase a ticket or obtain a Promise to Pay notice before you travel.

The three-day, fourth annual Christchurch Jigsaw Festival raised £1,800 to be shared between Christchurch, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Cancer Research UK.

Santa Claus will pay Ilkley an early visit on Saturday 25th November when he returns to switch on the Town’s Christmas Lights. The whole afternoon will be a build up to the exciting count-down at 5pm which will also feature a smaller but perfectly formed version of the popular monthly Real Food Ilkley Market.
Ilkley Memorial Gardens has received Grade II listed status to mark the centenary of the First World War.
Designed by the London architect John James Joass and laid out in 1922, the listing includes the gardens, the First World War memorial, the Second World War memorial and associated pavilion shelters, gate piers, gates, railings and steps.
Ilkley Memorial Gardens is registered at Grade II for its historic interest, its designer, its degree of survival and its group value.

Negotiations are still underway with Bradford MDC, but Ilkley Parish Council intends to take over the running/management of the Riverside toilets and Central Car Park toilets from 1st April 2018.
Due to an increased demand for secondary school places in the Wharfe Valley, City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council is proposing to expand Ilkley Grammar School to accommodate more children between the ages of 11 and 16.

A-board ban in Ilkley from April 2018
Bradford Council’s Executive have this week voted to ban pavement advertising boards (A-boards) from the streets of Ilkley. The ban will come into force on April 1 2018, with a £100 fine for any business repeatedly flouting the ban.

Lishman's of Ilkley crowed Butcher’s Shop of the Year
Lishman’s of Ilkley picked up two awards Monday at the annual Butcher’s Shop of the Year awards held at County Hall in London, winning ‘North of England Butcher’s Shop of the Year’ and being crowned the overall ‘Butcher’s Shop of the Year 2017’ for the whole of the UK.
For over 23 years the awards have been celebrating excellence, innovation and quality in butchery across England and, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. They also recognise the best in farm shops, food halls, online businesses, Halal butcher’s shops and new butchery businesses.

Following a review of car parking in Ilkley, 7 recommendations have been recommended by Steer Davies Gleave who undertook the study on behalf of Bradford Council.
These include introducing charges for short‐stay on‐street bays within the town centre that are currently subject to waiting restrictions, increasing the cost to park in South Hawksworth Car Park and charge at other council car parks, with the money being reinvested into improved parking facilities and introducing residents permit parking.
Bradford Council say that the study will be used to inform their short, medium and long term decision making around the management of both on-street and off-street, as well as residential parking.

Members of Bradford Council’s Executive look set to impose a district wide ban on advertising A boards.
Following a resolution at Full Council in July this year, Executive members will be asked to set the final seal on the ban to come into force from April next year.
Ilkley Town FC need your votes as they look to address the stigma associated with mental health in football.
The project has been launched to enter the Aviva Community Fund competition.

The charity 'Ilkley and District Good Neighbours' is calling for public votes to support its new anti-loneliness initiative “Moving On’, designed to help the over 60s combat feelings of isolation resulting from significant life changes.
1,000 public votes are needed to help the group through to the final stage of a the Aviva Community Fund and help extend the initiative to September 2018.

To install 10 to 12 CCTV cameras in Ilkley would cost around £50-60k with an annual maintenance cost of around £1.5k.
The draft version of the Neighbourhood Plan will be available to view on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 October at Ilkley Town Hall.
The plan has 23 planning policies on a wide range of issues such as housing, community facilities and landscape.
What is a Neighbourhood Development Plan? A new type of development plan that allows local people to come to together to help shape the future of the area.
Who prepares the plan? Everyone can get involved, but the body responsible for making sure every-thing comes together is Ilkley Parish Council.
Who makes the final decision on what goes in the plan? We all do. The plan must be put to a local referendum of all people eligible to vote in Ilkley.
How long will this take? From where we are now until the referendum, we hope 12 months.
The plan can be viewed on Friday 27 5pm - 9pm and Saturday 28 10am - 4pm.
The Governments controversial plans to redraw constituency boundaries would see the Keighley constituency, which includes Ilkley, extended to take in Burley-in-Wharfedale and Menston, which are presently within the Shipley constituency.

A homeowner on Victoria Avenue in Ilkley has been served a formal notice by Bradford Council to remove a controversial fence or apply for planning permission for change of use of the land.
Entries are now open for the 2018 Ilkley Business Awards, with 12 different categories open to all businesses across the LS29 area.
The awards will be presented at the Kings Hall on Friday March 16 2018, entries should be made online at www.ilkleybusinessawards.co.uk, deadline for entries is December 15 2017.
There will also be an additional 13th award for outstanding customer service which will be voted for by the public through the Ilkley Gazette, pick up a application form in the October 12 paper.
As previous years the entries will be judged by an independent panel after which the shortlist will be announced.

The public help desk at Ilkley Police station has now closed along with six others around West Yorkshire following a review of how they are used. The Ilkley station will remain operational with police officers and PCSO's working from the building.
The help desk in Ilkley has only been open on a Thursday for a number of years, in future to speak to someone in person or hand in lost property you will need to go to Keighley or Bradford Police station.
Surveys carried out earlier this year showed that 91% of respondents had not used a public Help Desk in the last 12 months, with 61% having never used one at all.

Services between Leeds and Ilkley will divert and run via Shipley and Baildon, adding approximately 20 minutes to journey times. Due to capacity constraints some peak services won't run and there are additional bus services.

Bradford Council has undertaken a comprehensive study of the existing parking arrangements in Ilkley to try and solve long-standing issues with parking in the town.
The report states that the biggest issues caused by parking tend to be within 400 metres of Ilkley railway station, although not all the problems are caused by commuters, with many shoppers struggle to find a space and local residents are sometimes obstructed in their own street.

Ilkley chosen to be a Tour de Yorkshire 2018 host town
Sir Gary Verity announced on Thursday morning that Ilkley will be a host town for next year's Tour de Yorkshire, along with Barnsley, Beverley, Doncaster, Halifax, Leeds, Richmond and Scarborough.
This means Ilkley will host either a start or finish on one of the 4 days of the event, which is taking place 3-6 May 2018, the full route will be revealed on December 5.
Dr Rosemary Hargreaves has officially retired from Ilkley Moor Medical Practice after 27 years - although she will still be supporting the practice in both Ilkley and Grassington until her replacement arrives and settles in.
Strike action will disrupt train services on Tuesday 3 October and Thursday 5 October.

Climber falls on Ilkley Moor
A climber was injured on Ilkley Moor yesterday after falling the equivalent height of nearly two double decker buses.
The 58 year old man was attended to by paramedics and members of the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) and was stretchered to an ambulance, then taken to hospital.
This was UWFRA's second visit to Ilkley over the weekend, the group were called out by Yorkshire Ambulance Service on Friday evening to assist with a vulnerable 14 year old girl in woodland. Local team members provided first aid to the casualty until a road ambulance arrived.

Ilkley Parish Council will support the running of the visitor information centre (VIC) after proposals were accepted by Bradford Council's executive committee.
Under the scheme, pharmacies will no longer order medicines on behalf of most patients. People are being urged to sign-up to an online system of ordering repeat prescriptions.

The Rotary Recycling Day on Saturday 30 September has expanded now that Ilkley Tools for Africa have new premises, the Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary Club can also collect old unwanted hand tools, workshop tools and Sewing Machines, in addition to Bikes, Wheelchairs, Mobility Aids and Spectacles. These items can be refurbished and put back into use – for someone who really needs them but can’t afford them.

Yorkshire-based restaurant and bar operator Arc Inspirations has secured a site in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, to open a new Banyan Bar & Kitchen.
Arc has acquired the lease from European restaurant Wildwood, with plans underway to rejuvenate the 5,000 sq ft site into the company’s seventh Banyan Bar & Kitchen, following sites in Harrogate, Horsforth, Roundhay, Manchester (pictured), York and Leeds.
Its doors are set to open in late October 2017, with the new bar and restaurant extending over two floors.

Students and staff at Ilkley Grammar School are celebrating impressive GCSE results following on from last week's record-breaking A-levels.
More than 35 per cent of all GCSE entries were achieved at A*-A/7, which is 15 per cent about the national average, with 87 per cent at A*-C/4, 21 per cent above national average.
The results include for the first time the new, more challenging GCSE examinations with numerical grades awarded from 9 to 1 in mathematics, English Language and English Literature.

A protest ramble to the top of Ilkley Moor was held on Saturday to oppose grouse shooting on council land.
The grouse shooting license, granted by Bradford City Council, is due to expire in April. Ban Bloodsports on Ilkley Moor (BBIM) said the practice is "a conservation calamity".
Bingley Moor Partnership, which has the contract to run eight days of grouse shooting per year, said the events helps fund moorland preservation.

Almost 200 swimmers took a dip in the Ilkley Lido this morning to celebrate the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year.
Organised by the Friends of Ilkley Lido, gates opened at 4.45am for swimmers to the plunge with hot drinks and sandwiches available in the cafe.
Eight weeks of disruption for gas works
The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £91k to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network in and around St James Road, Ilkley.
This project began on Monday 19 June and is anticipated to last around eight weeks. The works, which are expected to finish on 18 August, have been planned in conjunction with Bradford Council to ensure the scheme is completed with as little disruption as possible.
Works will be carried out in phases with Brook Street, Junction of Railway Road, Oakburn Road, Parish Ghyll Road, Grove Park, Grove Road and Eaton Road all being affected.

Ilkley Open Gardens this Saturday
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the formation of The Hardy Plant Society, five members who live in Ilkley are opening their gardens to the public this Saturday from 1pm-5pm. They are not show gardens, but belong to people who love plants and try to have something of interest in their gardens for as much of the year as possible.
Guides showing the location of the gardens are available at 1A The Drive, Ben Rhydding, LS29 8AY, and 16 Victoria Avenue, LS29 9BL. The cost is £5 which includes entrance to all the gardens and refreshments. There will also be a plant stall.
Proceeds from the event will be divided between Martin House, Alzheimers Research, and Famine Relief in Africa.

Bank Holiday Monday's Ilkley Carnival saw the best parade ever, with over 1000 participants from local schools and organisations. Ashlands School won best school and best in parade, 1st Ben Rhydding Cubs were the best group/organisation and best pre school went to Ilkley Pre School Playgroup,
Carnival organisers estimate over 10,000 went through the gates and hope to top the £10,000 raised for local good causes when the final totalling is done and the figure is announced next week.
